Which movies deserve to be rereleased in theaters?

Well, since no one around here had any chance to see it...it WASN'T widely released. Curses...

Well, Viking Bastard also saw it being rereleased (though was not able to make it to the showing himself it seems), and he doesn't live in Los Angeles I don't think. In addition, if you read the 2001 DVD reviews, it is mentioned that "Shortly before he died Kubrick supervised the restoration of the film and the production of new 70 mm prints for theatrical release in 2001." I am pretty sure it did get at least a fairly wide rerelease in 2001. Is it possible you just missed it? I seem to recall it being only out for a week...

I know I didn't miss it, because I had my eye out for it...I remember at least hearing it was a possibility, though no one I know of(until now, of course) actually saw/knew it existed. Ah well...I'll just wait until 2010 to come around and catch the not-so-great-but-its-got-HAL-sequel. :)

I found this list:

Theatrical Rerelease Dates: October 5th, 2001 (Seattle-Cinerama); November 2nd, 2001 (Washington, DC-Uptown); November 21st, 2001 (SF-Castro); December 14th, 2001 NY-Loews Astor Plaza); December 21st, 2001 (LA-Egyptian (70mm).

I also saw a shot of the rerelease poster.

I'll go just for seeing Nightmare Before Christmas one more time on the big screen

...or The Lion in Winter one more time... ;)

The Lion in Winter. Best Movie EVER! Well researched, gripping performances, great depiction of medieval life. It was incredible! My very favorite movie.

HenryII:it's flat, hard, heavy... My tombstone! You brought me my tombstone!
Eleanor: I never could deny you anything...

The Auld Grump

Yup! Doesn't have to be any connection to your rerelease though.

(though was not able to make it to the showing himself it seems),
YES! *SOB* It felt like someone ripped out my heart and fed
it to squirrels!

Nope. Far away. Faaaaaaaarrr awaaaaaaay. Really really really
FAAAAAAAAARRRR away! Far AAAAWWAAAAAAAAAAAYY! Well,
maybe not *that* far away, but a few thousands of miles of
land and sea.

The Exorcist.

Its already been released, but man I tells ya, it should come out every Halloween! I had seen the movie before and enjoyed, but only on T.V. Going to see it in the theatre, what a great experience!

The screems were great! What a rush of energy! I loved seeing it in the theatre, totally changed the movie experience. Shared scares are fun. :D

I certainly didn't get the chance to see 2001 on the big screen, but my local, beloved Somerville Theater is once again showing The Exorcist on their big screen on Halloween. Last time I saw it there, my friend Toby leapt into the air at the point when Regan rears up behind the priest & conks him on the head.
