Which system for a Star Wars game?

Wow, thank goodness Saga Edition didn't sprout of d20 Modern then. We might have used some mechanical concepts from Modern, but it's its own game.

The way it was talked about earlier made it sound like it. Sorry if I misread ;)

I do have a serious question. How has the galaxy not already exploded into an orgy of civil war? A millennium is a long time for paranoid people to build private armies and arrange private alliances; I would think that over such a length of time someone would have started trouble already.

I was tempted to answer this myself, but wanted to give Sunglar a chance to respond -- as it was directed to him. ;) Such a question came up in my campaign, which had a similar starting status to the one Sunglar is making.

After the war that reformed the Republic, new territories previously opened to exploit tactical advantage could have became open to colonization/exploration. Given the vastness of a galaxy size frontier full settlement of new systems could take centuries by itself. Most problems are gonna be handled in-house on the sector level. Plus, the war machines from the last war are still being downsized. Plus, the Republic's magical butt-kicking ambassadors can clarify things for a resolution. :D

Valhalla, minor conflict have occurred, but mostly contained within sectors and the Senate is powerless to do anything. When the “peace” was agreed upon many limitations were in place, armament, amount of ships each system could deploy, little by little the rules have been broken. More powerful alliances/groups/block (call it what you may) have annexed, colonized or made neighbors protectorates. Now the big guys are getting ready for the inevitable big fight they perceive will come no matter what… So in effect even the illusion of the long peace is a sham!

Is that satisfactory?
Very satisfactory, thank you.

To again draw upon my WWI parallel, colonization of Africa. It let things stew for a decade or two longer than they would have but in the end that just made everything that much worse.

Yep. Now imagine if Africa was a big as the Mid Rim. ;)

I envisioned small scale battles going on throughout the Pre-Clone Wars Republic. Whenever the Republic's attention focused here or there, elsewhere another power was bending/breaking the Republic charter to snatch more resources. Their neighbors notice and rat to the Republic but their hand is out of the cookiee jar by then, and nobody like a rat.

"See, the Senate cant protect us. We better prepare just in case they snatch our way next time." Fear leads to anger; anger leads to militarization; militarization leads to 'pre-emptive deterrence'. Mercs and pirates get funded as intermediaries to hide their sponsor's involvement and justify more militarization.

But, enough on politics. :D

Please use the d20 Modern autofire attack rule, or some semblance of it.

I don't like shooting while stationary.

But don't use d20 Modern Two-Weapon Fighting feat's prerequisites (i.e., Dex 13). Keep it at 3e standard (i.e., Dex 15). :]

This is what I was thinking as well. No outright war, since their still is the fear of waking the sleeping giant that is the Republic. If somone goes to militaristic, it just might tip the bealance and force others to ally together. Better to fund pirating schemes. I mean privateers. :D

Aww. I wanted to make my wookie pistoleer. ;) Dex 8 and a heavy blaster in each hand.

That is pretty much like I was imaging it guys, you’ve given me some other ideas. I feel no hate for D20 Modern, in fact, what little I have played I like it. The elements the Saga System has taken form Modern seem promising.

What do you think about using characters form the prequels and recasting them in a different light? There are obviously characters that need to be there, Obi-Wan, Anakin, etc, but what about others? Many will be playing decidedly different roles and I was hoping on playing on their misconceptions.

Got to go to a business dinner. Back later!

That's just fun. Using people's unfounded assumptions against them is one of life's little joys.

Maybe Mace, Yoda, Palpatine, Dooku and perhaps Padme (dunno how you see the fall coming about). Dont see the need for anyone else.

I'd have the extinction of the Gungans be an off screen war atrocity. :D
