Which system for a Star Wars game?

I understand Diggus… Thanks for the input. I’ll mull it over and keep in mind your opinion, any other out there? I must admit that my take on the Jedi philosophy is limited to what I’ve seen in the movies read in the RPG books and the limited contact I’ve had with the EU.

Diggus, I think you're bringing a bit too much from the prequels and the EU into the picture. at least more than Sunglar was bargaining for ;)

I'm not the greatest scholar of things SW, but from reading things from the EU and wookiepedia, I can't help but notice how inconsistent the protrayal of the jedi code is. I'm not sure about exactly what the Dark side is either (sometimes it's described as balancing the Light Side, other time's as corruption). That of course is due to having way too many hands in the pot (EU-wise). You have to ermember that this is a revised version of the universe, based solely on the three original movies (and maybe the x-mas special  ), so Sunglar is freer than most to work things out in his own fashion.

The Christmas Special is a must… I need help writing up Bea Arthur stats! (Can you tell I like her? She is my favorite Golden Girl… Should I admit to that in the boards?

Thanks for the kind words iwatt! Diggus brings some good points and I have at least one HARDCORE SW fan in the group who is much more involved in the EU than I am, so I want to hear opinions from all sides. I am not discarding the religious group outright, just thinking how I’m going to present it.

Another thing I am not planning on using is this whole rule of two, or whatever it is called, with the Sith. There will be more than two.

Hope you had a good weekend iwatt!

I could argue from the original trilogy but in the end you'll just do as you wish, and many of my points may not even come up. Whatever entertains your players is what works, ofcourse.

Thanks Diggus! Argue on I do not mind, I am actually enjoying this very much. I had a long day, that included air travel and I’m just getting home. I had some thought on the adventures themselves, but I am too tired to type them out now. I’ll come around tomorrow and post.

See you all then!

If this Jedi cult was relegated tp the fringes, far from the orders' notice, I could see them working. The Outer Rim is like the 3rd world in that way, big and full of craziness.

Failry decent. I barbecued a rack of lamb which was delicious, so that was a plus too.

Hey, as a citizen of the 3rd World I have too...well actually I have to agree. :D

In any case, that's a good compromise, either the outer rim or a semi-advanced world with a tradition of independence.

I would recommend the Star Wars Roleplaying Game (Second Edition), published by West End Games -- it's the blue book with the picture of vader's mask on the cover.

[/i]).

Wouldn't you think that SW d6 2E Revised and Expanded edition (with the falcon on the cover) is better?

It cleaned up some clunky rules, and has the nice full color interior.

I think for ease of play, and visual presentation both, that's my preferred version.

The thread makes me want to try the Savage Rules system.

I've played d6 and d20. My group liked d6 way better. I'd even say way way better. As GM, I found d6 way easier to run in play, faster for combat, and way easier to prep for out of game.

d20 seemed a bit bogged down during combat - and didn't have the cinematic feel (and the rules didn't seem to encourage it) during fights that d6 had. Outside of combat, I like d6's skills system better. Feats for me are fine for D&D. Less of a fun factor for star wars though.

If you plan to go with d20, I sugest waiting for the revision in March.

I very rarely found the d6 rules clunky. I also liked that they aren't over developed for the genre the way d20 feels to me. YMMV, but my point is that with star wars, things that are fast and lend to off the cuff play = good. Things that require calculation, slow things down, or encourage more methodical play = fine for some I suppose, but not the star wars my group likes to play.

00Machado thanks for dropping by and sharing your feedback. All the things that you mentions seem to be emulated well with the True20 rule set, which I just finished rereading. There are even GREAT fan created adaptations of SW, ask a certain gentleman in this thread!

Savage World I have read and own, but Machado I have absolutely NO experience running it. I think, and this is purely m y opinion from reading the books not running the games themselves, that True20 does all the things people like about Savage World within the D20 framework.

Since the campaign is still in the planning stages and will not begin before March, I am waiting for the SW Saga Edition and giving the authors the benefit of the doubt. My players are psyched about waiting too so we’ll see once the rules come out if it is either True20 or Saga edition.

iwatt, rack of lamb! ¡Que delicioso! (How delicious, sorry lapsed into the native tongue there for a moment) That is excellent, hope the week continues the trend. Hope all the rest of you are having fun.

The idea of the religious sect in the outer rim is excellent and a great compromise. I’ll run with it. Now I’ve been thinking about the factions, the different political groups that have spawned in my fractured vision of the Republic.

By now I’ve established that the Jedi Military sect hold a protectorate that includes the Duros, and thus if I am not mistaken, some area of the core words (right?). The Mystics also hold some planet, I envision mid rim probably. Jorus C'baoth and Dooku hold small protectorates, of a few planets, perhaps only a system, I have not decided where, but Jorus probably in the Outer Rim.

I see Dooku holding some ancestral lands in a well known area. Some other independent Jedi may have small insignificant holdings. The Religious sect has some pres3ence in fringe outer rim worlds. No political control there.

The Alderaan system and their allies will play an important role in the plot. The Corellian Sector will be another group, any ideas or thoughts on how they may expand into their neighbor’s territories? What other blocks you would see forming in this environment? The Hutts are around but they are independent of the Republic.

What about names for the Jedi orders or sects. I thought about calling the Military sect the Leoco Actum, but fear it may not sound right! No opinion on using Aldon as a first name for Palpatine?

Talk to you all later!

I see, you're doing jedi knights like historical knights with land grants and all, thats original.

Corellia, in your setting, is sandwiched between the military protectorate and Alderaan. You could give them control over a certain percentage of the Expansion Region and Mid Rim. This is how Star Wars nations spread, in slices, cause fights with the neighbors have been done and over for millenia (sorta like Europe, as Valhalla might point out).

I could name other possible power blocks, but I design from the perspective that if it doesnt influence the main arch why develope it? Sullust, home of the Sullustans (Lando's co-pilot on the Falcon), is owned by Soro-Suub as weapon and vehicle making company near Tarkin's home world Eriadu.

Hutt business and power should be booming in this political climate. Tense times fuel violence and vice, and these guys feed strippers to Rancors! I was expecting more influence from them in the prequel era.

Names-schmames, whatever sounds good does.
