My personal experience here in sunny Philadelphia is that the reaction to 4e has been overwhelmingly positive. New campaigns are being planned, new settings brainstormed, and friends who'd given up on D&D during 3e are anxious to play again.

We'll see how that holds up to actually playing 4e, of course.

What I've seen around here is 4e being enthusiatically embraced by gamers. On June 6th, my FLGS had 36 slipcase D&D sets, 36 PHBs, 24 DMGs, and 24 MM's and sold them all in 4 hours! They have since then brought in about 80 more PHBs, 50 MM and DMGs, and they are almost all gone as well. A friend who works at the local Barnes and Noble gave me a similar account of what they are seeing there too.

What I am seeing is a LOT of people selling off their 3.x D&D stuff. The used book shelf is packed with 3.x books that the FLGS owner doubts will ever move, so he's Ebaying them off at about $7 a pop for the hardcovers, and $3 for the softcovers. I'm also playing in a 4e group at my FLGS and from what the employees say, people have been very happy and excited about 4e, and they have had ZERO returns of the 4e books so far, and nobody has sold any of them back to the store. Quite a few people have told the FLGS employees that they were driven away from D&D by 3.x, but 4e got their interest back.

I don't doubt there is some 4e hate going on, but I'm not seeing it around here.

Although I voted C&C, that is just a guess. I'm currently DMing 3.5 and I'm not sure it's feasible that my group and I will change to C&C any time soon (although I'd like to). Anyhow, I see myself playing either be 3.5, Pathfinder, or C&C. My group is apathetic to 4e at best (myself included). I certainly won't be DMing 4e... ever.

My gaming dollars are going to:

:1: Pathfinder

:2: Castles and Crusades

:3: Other 3rd party 3.0/3.5 products

I've literally heptupled or better my 3.X collection over the last 6 months with local hobby and bookstores marking WotC 3.X products down to as much as half-off. I've also been snatching up 3rd party 3.X material dirt cheap off of Amazon and Ebay as well. Good Lord there are some deals out there!!

From a practical standpoint, there's absolutely no reason for me to switch additions. I've got enough material to last me 20 years!

This sounds just like me... I'm usually rather tight with my money, but knowing that I'm sticking with 3.5-compatible systems has given me an excuse to splurge on all the deals.

My current plans involve playing a 4th ed game, online at least, and continuing to DM a 3rd ed based game. It may or may not go Pathfinder, I haven't decided yet, but it wouldn't fit 4th ed in the slightest.

I really wish I could find Monster Manual IV and V for those prices. Everything I can find in stock or on Ebay is selling for $5 off the MSRP. Where's my special pricing? If anyone who is adopting 4E and not going back would like to get rid of your copies of those two for around the $7 mark, let me know and I'll gladly take them off your hands.
