Who could be in a Pulp LXG?

But how does the Green Hornet fit in?

If you're really trying to stick it to the man, you don't drive Brit Reed's car.

Maybe the Green Hornet is really the sidekick. Kato's loyal sidekick Brit is the mouthpiece, the frontman. Kato can travel among the rich and powerful because they think Brit is one of them --- but it's Kato's money, and Kato calls all the shots.

That's an awesome idea; I think I'll let them make assumptions about all the characters and then spring things like this on them AFTER they choose the characters.

Also, he'd still be a useful member of the team; his detective skills alone ingratiate him to the team(in fact that's probably what drew him and Kato together).

Steve Austin would probably be better for a "Modern" LXG.

If I remember right, Steve Austin, besides being a wrestler, was the name of the guy who founded Texas Rangers back in the late 1800's..

Are you trying to pregen these characters for a game? Which system are you using? It's a cool idea for a one-shot/short adventure that I just may steal since we are in-between games right now. :)

I have a hunch hes referring to the million dollar man Steve Rogers not the bionic redneck steve austin, but i could be wrong.

If I ever write a Fu Manchu movie, it'll be Fu as a Shaolin-raised, Oxford educated genius who gets pushed over the edge during the Boxer Rebellion and wages a secret war against tyranny.

He'll be assisted by an Indian, a Irishman, a Native American, an African...everyone who would have a grudge against the imperial powers.

Fu and company fight against MI-6 agent Sir Denis Nayland Smith, the most arrogant and cruel Brit imaginable.

I'd use Wong Fei Hung as a starting point, then pulp it up:

Yes, I'm pregenning them; I'm either gonna use D20 Modern with FCtF, or more likely, Mutants and Masterminds. i'm not sure on much of anything yet, even power level; I'll let that be decided individually. But I'm not telling my players beforehand which characters are of what PL; they just get to choose the characters that they think are cool, then they get the sheet and the stats and, if applicable, any additional background information they might need on the character.

Brilliant thread. Some great ideas here.

- Green Hornet and Kato

Use this one just for the "Kato's the boss" bit.

- Dr. Henry Armitage

Considering the tone of the comic book, especially in the included short story, you have to have a Cthulhu reference.

- Lord Greystoke

Too perfect for words. Fits the tone of the book precisely.

- Larry Talbot, the "Werewolf"

I'm not clear on the date of his story, but including a metahuman is a good idea.

- Indiana Jones and "Rick" O'Connell

The two together are redundant. Indy's had better adventures - but O'Connell's lower profile would be better for the group. Of course, if he's there, his wife would be along.

- Shadow, Phantom, Rocketeer

Having all three of them AND the Green Hornet give this group too much of a superhero feel for my tastes.

Doc Savage would be mandatory - if he were available.
I'd agree with including Amelia Earhardt simply to include at least one woman on the team.
Also, you need a little more mixed ethinicity. Just a thought.

What about Eliot Ness, from the Untouchables?

tips from the books

To add fuel to the discussion:

Alan Moore mentioned leagues from other eras in the back story (that is the story in the back of the text). There is strong indication that volume III (if it is ever written) will involve a future version of the LXG. It seems likely that this would be a pulp era league.

Then again, Alan Moore is rumored to be retiring before this would ever get published (I think, in part, because of the addition of Tom Sawyer to the LXG movie ;) ) - so who knows.
