What on earth makes Nerull cool? He's the Grim Reaper and that's it. He's not even a cool Grim Reaper, like Discworld has. Only Pelor is defined worse.

You've apparently never read stuff about Nerull so you wouldn't understand. Don't be fooled by his pathetic write-up in the PH (or for any of the core pantheon gods anyway). There is a lot of history on Nerull (and particularly on his dark cult, the Horned Society) that goes back a LONG way.

As for the Grim Reaper, well, the Grim Reaper is cool. But the Grim Reaper is a dispassionate angel of death who merely carries out God's will. Nerull is like the Grim Reaper with a sinister twist. The Grim Reaper doesn't revel in death. Nerull does. Not death because it must be, but death solely for death's sake. The cruel dichotomy is that death cannot exist without life. So Nerull is forced to watch people live only long enough to procreate so that he can have something to kill when he kills them.

Wee Jas is my favorite - who can say no to a redheaded goddess of love, even if she does also happen to be responsible for death, magic, death magic, and possibly the collapse of an entire civilization?

I think it is quite clear that Wee Jas was not responsible, nor did she even encourage, such destructive use of magic. The fact that she took on a death aspect after the Twin Cataclysms is a sign of her anguish over the misuse of magic by her people. At least that's my take on it...
