Who ruined D&D's Rep?

This thread is here for everyone to voice their opinion of what person or group made D&D seem really geeky and stupid, making them think the same of any who played it.
I'll start: LARPers. They are the idiots running around in a robe in the woods yelling "Lightning bolt" and hitting each other with foam swords

ALL OF US.
Oddly, my original game group(s) in high school were not really uncool.

One guy was a football player. One guy was in track and field. One guy was sort of a bodybuilder (he worked out a lot and was "ripped"). One guy was a pot head (not cool, but not what you think of as a "nerd"). Most of us dated girls here and there, and some of us had a girlfriend at one time or another while we played D&D (my girlfriend at one point was a cheerleader -- yes, really).

There were some of my fellow gamers who fit the stereotype of "nerd D&D player," but they were not the majority.

In my early twenties, I would go clubbing and dancing on Friday and Saturday nights, and then play games with my friends on Sunday night.

I think becoming a dad has made me more uncool than gaming ever did.
