Who's happy about MMV being MMIV again?

Just a few numbers:

Monster Manual IV
Pages with new monsters: 153
Pages with old monsters: 37

New monster statblocks: 86
Old monster statblocks: 28

Monster Manual III
Pages with new monsters: 196
Pages with old monsters: 0

New monster statblocks: 180
Old monster statblocks: 0

Cheers!

I like the overall format. The "Flumphs in eberron" stuff could be less breezy, and I just flat out didn't like the Spawn of Tiamat, and hence was annoyed at so much of them.

The new stat block needs some tweaks... while I am a big fan of ease of play, they should be easy to customize, too.

Hmm - I really don't find them hard to customize. Then too, I found the old statblock just as much of a pain to use when advancing monsters.

Cheers!

What do you mean by "old monsters"? If you mean updates from past editions, MMIV has 0, and MMIII has the chrall, flind, sussurus, trilloch, and yugoloths.

Or are you referring to classed drow, orcs, gnolls, etc.?

That depends what you mean about being done like MMIV means.

If it means Psionics gets to remain the redheaded stepchild, no I won't be happy.

If it means pre-developed challenges, I'm fine with that.

What about a psionic-specific MM? Would that be of interest? (It would to me!)

I personally liked the idea of MM IV but some of the exectuion was lacking. Some things that fell out of the stat block and into the text should go back into the block, in my opinion. I think having the standard gnoll in MM and the gnoll characters in MMIV is kind of strange. But I certainly like the idea of classed monsters (I wouldn't mind 8-10 pages of various classed orcs, goblins, etc.). The sample lairs could have been more creative and fleshed out, but again I didn't mind having them there.

I'll give it a look. I was pretty vocal about my dislike of MM4, but that was largely because of the Spawn and the classed critters being heavy on races I don't use (hates me some drow).

The new stat block has some benefits, though it could stand some slight tweaking. I especially love the lore checks. MM4 also had some outstanding new critters. It just didn't have $30 worth.

If MM5 keeps the high points of MM4 and looses the low points, I'll definitely pick it up. If we end up with more Spawn, classed drow, and the like, I'll pass.

I'll wait and see.

I only got MM4 because I found it in a discount bin for $10.

Gotta love that Githyanki entry, the first sentence starts; "The relentlessly militaristic, psionic-using githyanki......" and then they give no example of using psionics.
