Why do you play D&D?

It's a great creative outlet for me plus I get to socialize with friends, take a mental vacation away from real-life concerns for a while, and it's just plain FUN.

This is too funny. I love the signature line that follows.

Makes a whole lot of sense why Psion is looking for players :)
BTW, I'm just having a little fun with you, Psion. Don't flame me.

Not to pick on you or your reply, +5 Keyboard, but I think the original question was more along the lines of why do you play D&D (as opposed to another RPG?)

This reply--and most of the ones in this thread so far--don't really address that question at all, and they give answers that would apply to any RPG.

OK. Sure.
In that case... The system is much easier to me, can be adapted in a lot of different ways, and it's just funner than other RPGs. It could also be my tendency to find something I like and stick with it exclusively. I remember eating nothing but Raisinbran every morning for almost an entire school year in junior high until I finally tired of it. Unlike Raisinbran, though, I've never tired of Dungeons & Dragons. ;)

I play D&D because I still find it interesting after all these years. With almost every other game you run out of options sooner or later. With chess I know what I need to do to win a game after 4-5 moves. With games like monopoly, life and clue games get repeatitive. Even with games like World of Warcraft, I ran out of new things to do. With D&D you never run out of options, you never play the same game twice and you never know how the game is going to go. Even when play the same class that I've played half a dozen times its new and interesting. Throw in the fact that Wizards puts out 1 or 2 books every months and the options are endless, limited only by your imagination.

I play DnD b/c it gives me a creative outlet, and it's a fun, fantasy-based adventure game. I like the fact that for a few ours every week I'm not in front of a TV or computer. It gives me time to enjoy with friends that has nothing to do with technology.

It all boils down to fun.

I left the question vague since I think both questions and the answers to them are equally of interest...

Uh, yeah. I sure don't play any RPG, or game, unless it is fun. So of course my answer would be the same if the question applied to RPG's in general or specifically by name. If I play them it is because I have fun doing so.

Do you play RPG's that you hate? I don't.

Why does anyone NOT play DnD?
To socialize and have promiscuous premarital sex? :p

The only problem is the grooming. It's like DM preparation. Now I know why others want pre-generated adventure modules.
