D&D General Why Enworld should liberate D&D from Hasbro

We should remember the famous dungeon-crawnling board game "Hero Quest" suffered the worst case, it was "dead" during two decades, until they released a new edition (maybe because somebody working for Hasbro read us here) and now it has got more expansion than the original, even it is sold better.

Hasbro could licence some subfranchise, something like when Ravenloft was published by White Wolf.. (and the number of titles had to mean the sales had to be good) but this may have got some risks.... are canon the things published in 3rd Ed? Hasbro would rather to have complete creative control about its IPs.

Hasbro wanted its videogame studios were its IPs farm but I am afraid WotC can do it sooner and cheaper.

Today the hobby is too known and popular thanks Stranger Things, Critical Role or videogames. I doubt seriously D&D to lose brand power but if there is some surprise. The hobby is going to enjoy good health and D&D will keep enjoy a growing popularity.

Perhaps Hasbro/WotC bets for becoming a third-party distributor in addition to publishing its own titles. The goal with the TTRPG section would be to earn more brand power but the strategy would be other lines like main income-sources (specially videogames).

* Did you know there was an official D&D-Fortnite collab? I was surprised they didn't do it before.

Since I own all the D&Ds I liked then up in a corner. Wanted to see a good battle royale.

4E got sandwiched between 3.5 and 5.0. Nothing happened though. I was expecting something at least. No reaction though just sat there.

Gonna go ask my cat his opinion on a warlord class being done by WotC. It's unfair.

Failing that I'll go ask the stray cat (see avatar) I rehomed at my nephews place his opinion on 5.5 being a rehash and how much it sucks. Then post a YouTube video saying WotC is bankrupt and blame the French.
AITA?

Quick, someone get us a clip of Sarah McLachlan's "In the Arms of an Angel" playing over slow-motion panning shots of old bearded guys behind ratty AD&D DM's Screens with old, battered dice, piteous eyes turned sadly upwards the camera as they show their empty bowls of Cheetos and dry bottles of Mountain Dew!
Cheetos? It's always been Doritos! :);)

At least they've been trying out some Dew. ;) So many varieties of Dew, so little time to dew them in.

I am about to get a little salty, but hopefully amusing....

Then, by all means, show your work.

Numbers pulled out of your Astral Plane are not persuasive.

My father would have called that "horsehockey".

Control is an illusion - even WotC figured that out and put 5e under Creative Commons. There's no need to "liberate" that which is already free. There are already approaches extant to support whatever playstyle you want. Your personal preferred style doesn't have to be WotC's sole focus to be playable.

Nobody needs to be "stopped". Not you, and not Hasbro.

Oh, please. I've heard this from too many grumpy people on the internet who get themselves in a twist over pastel colors in gaming art, or depiction of non-white people, or of men looking with love at other men. Don't join their ranks.

WotC seems to be serving more players than ever.

Those games have plenty of support in numerous products already, enabled by WotC's licensing approaches. Nobody's stopping you from playing how you like, and there's plenty of folks actively supporting you. What matters to me is the tired rhetoric of people who apparently cannot handle no longer being the only focus of D&D. Get a grip.
To be fair, I'm quite certain the type of gamer I am is currently being actively disabled by the gorilla, not just "no longer being the only focus". Sure, my preferences were never specifically catered to all that much, but it used to be much, much easier to make it work.

Fortunately, there are other games, even other 5e games, that suit me much better than the current official iteration of Dungeons & Dragons. I just wish more people knew about them.

Commenting so that I remember to come back here after the earnings call on 23 October when I expect D&D to be mentioned and the 3 quarters of D&D earnings to be about a third a billion

Never let "facts" get in the way of a good conspiracy theories! Even if the results are amazing, that will just be proof that it hasn't collapsed ... yet.
