Why hate 3eR before it comes out?

Can you believe Hasbro has released new editions of Monopoly? Those greedy jerks should come to my house and give me the new editions free. I mean there wasn't anything wrong with the old edition!

I can't believe Hasbro is actually in business to make money! Then they go and do something like provide jobs for people and try to give money to their shareholders! These people should be jailed. I hate them for publishing a game I like. Oh, and when they can't make enough money, I'm going to blame them for having to lay people off.[/baseless complaint]

If they did it solely for the money, it would not get released in the SRD the same friggin' day.

Heh, Save your breath. We all know people who want to make money rank up there with grandma stealers and kitten eaters.

WOTC should abide by the model their critics must live- give their work away for free and never ask for compensation.

" if it makes them a dollar, they will do it"

If it makes them a dollar, it is because somebody wants to buy it. If somebody wants to buy it, it is because it is something good.

I will gladly pay over $100.00 CAD to buy the 3 books on the spot when they are released. If I didn't want them, I wouldn't buy them.

If WotC wasn't in it to make money, they would close shop, and I wouldn't have my favourite hobby supported.

You know, I hate rap music. I don't buy it. They still make it, but I just don't buy any of it. It doesn't affect my life that they make those albums.

Anyone ?

First of all, the changes seem more extensive than the original announcements stated. Rewrites on many spells, classes, and monsters is quite a bit different than explaining some things more clearly, and altering some well known problem spells. It's not that these changes are bad. However, I feel the released information suggests a different level of revision than WotC remarks.

Also, I don't like the revised DR system or some of the spell changes. Instead of radically revising spells like shield or haste, they could have merely been increased a level or something.

But I love it when they release stuff on the SRD immediately. I plan on saving everything to my machine right away.

Indeed. I will do that too, that doesn't cost anything. It may be dry material to read though.

Mouseferatu, about the post you made about WotC being a business: Excellent!

Why hate 3eR before it comes out?

=sarcasm=
Because I enjoy whining, am scared of change, got tired of complaining about the move from 2e to 3e, and am so morbidly broke that I can't even save $100 over SEVEN MONTHS.
=/sarcasm=

The new books come out in mid August, seven months from now. To get *all three books* the day they come out, all ya gotta do is sock away a measly 14 bucks a month. Skip one Extra Value Meal at McDonalds each week until August, and you've saved enough money to pay for your books.

The "boo hoo I can't afford new books/WotC is a big bad company for responding to customer complaints and releasing an improved product" arguments are a little embarassing to read.

-z, not really a mean guy

You may not really be a mean guy, but you do one hell of a imitation of one. Honestly what's with all the insults in this and many other threads about 3.5.(yes very hypocritical of me 1 sentence before) Both sides have their notable twits, some like 3.5, some don't but can we try to keep it civil perhaps.

The largest file size is Basic Character Classes I, and it's only 116k! That's 12 seconds or less with a 28.8 modem! DSL my butt.

Heck, I've got the original HTML files that I saved (of course, that version isn't exactly up to date -- there are errors that haven't been corrected & changes to the SRD that haven't been applied, so it's not such a good resource if you're writing for publication). I don't use 'em for gaming (no laptop, no convenient desktop system), but when I'm writing up NPCs, monster stat blocks, etc., I rarely crack open the core rules.

IIRC, someone has an "Enhanced SRD" posted -- which is the SRD in HTML. Search for that in Google, and get your SRD in friendly hyperlinked HTML. I don't know how up to date it is, though.

No use at the gaming table? You meant to tell me that you can only use a document that has been professionally bound and printed?

Well, I know that I sometimes have, uh, organizational difficulties, such that I'd probably make a few hundred unbound printed pages into disaster area. Maybe Limper has a similar problem (after the beatings Croaker & friends laid on him, I wouldn't be surprised). :D

Why is it some people hate a product six months before it even gets released? Wait and see, then make the decision to hate it or not, but it seems that anytime there is a change people get so upset over nothing its ridiculous. Plus, 90% of all those that hate it now will love it when its released after they look at it, so for all those that hate it, take a chill pill and relax, and enjoy what is already provided for you.

Because it _seems_ like they are changing things that don't need to be changed.

And yes, it is useful to complain about these changes. If there is enough uproar now we may be able to prevent some rules that should be optional.
