Why is Palladium so ant-d20?

Also, in SJGames favor, GURPS has an absolutely slavish core audience that tends to buy whatever the most recent GURPS book is primarilly to have it. Being someone who owns multiple editions of a few GURPS books I'm not casting aspersions, just pointing out that adds up to a chunk of change over the year just from the addicts alone. I also think GURPS 4e is doing pretty well. I for one, have been pretty impressed with it. I'm not sure if Palladium has that same sort of near obsessive core audience of buyers.

Yes, yes it does.

People who play Palladium RPG often play ONLY palladium, and buy every book that comes out for the game lines they play.
RIFTS in particular has a huge number of fans who are this way. They'll buy the "RIFTS:South Uzbekistan" sourcebook even if they never plan to ever ever take their party to South Uzbekistan or use anything from the book.

I've actually seen one RIFTS fanboy complain for twenty minutes about how much one particular RIFTS sourcebook sucks, and then buy it immediately after the rant. Why? Because otherwise he "wouldn't have the whole set".

The only true game, the mandatory fun game better then all those other (not fun) games. Paranoia.

And only commies would disagree with that. :p

For a second there I thought you were going parrot the undead mage Olgaid and his somewhat...traditional...choice.

Someone gave him bad legal advice too. Copyrights don't have to be defended to remain valid (as he claims). Trademarks yes, copyrights no.

Yep. Someone did. Someone gave him very bad advice on the Open Game License as well.

So you're challenging Ken Hite and Ryan Dancey's partially inaccurate statistics because they are "suspect", and then replacing them with your own completely made-up statistics based on what you saw at your one local store?

Hmm....
Yes I am.

Ryan Dancey's information is over 5 years old and an awful lot has happened to the industry since then, and frankly the Ken Hite data is about as accurate as what I just made up if you look at the methodology. Go back to when that data was first published and look at the controversy surrounding it, I'd give you a link but even though I donated money my Community Supporter account was never activated (and emails to Morrus went ignored), but that data is little more than speculation.

I never claimed to be making ironclad claims about the industry, nor giving "statistics", I was giving my own anecdotal information, and the only hard information I gave was that SJG claimed $2.8 million last year, which they just announced, and that WotC is the biggest company in the industry with White Wolf being second biggest, and nobody really doubts that. I speculated that Mongoose may be in the #3 or #4 position by now, since they've expanded a lot (and again proving how inherently off the Dancey stats are, they predate all the d20 companies and collapse of FASA among other things), and I think that speculation carries about as much accuracy as anybody elses speculation, which is all we've really got.

The only true game better than all those other (not fun) games isn't paranoia. It's the game your currently playing. :D

And only Commie Pinko Fags, Liberal Fuzzheads, and UltraConservative Types would disagree with that.

When I first started running a supers game back in the early 90's, I had bought the Palladium stuff and had everything all set to go. This was in college and I was working on the campaign during my summer break. About a week before I left for college I changed my mind, balked, and decided to run Villains & Vgilantes instead. I just felt that Palladium supers was kind of a mess comparred to the easy - overly easy - Villains & Vigilantes.

V&V is a great little game.

Well, Charles Ryan's data (the 75% market share for WotC) are from last year :). These were the ones I referred to ;).
