Why is Tempus favored weapon an axe?

So how long has Tempus favored the old Axe?

And why isn't his holy symbol a flaming axe as opposed to... yes, a flaming sword!

I'm pretty sure I looked up his 2nd ed material in Faiths & Pantheons and yeah, it was an axe back then too, but as a specialty priest, you could pick your weapon and got the old spiked gauntlet profiency. (Should that be a simple weapon in 3rd ed?)

And Tyr has the longsword, altho there is the hammer of justice on his symbol.

I really don't know why... *shrug*
