Will WotC ever do a Magic the Gathering D&D setting?

I think making PC's planeswalkers would be the equivilant of making them gods.
Everway by Jonathan Tweet and originally published by WotC pulled it off for beginning characters quite nicely.

It's just a movement power. That's all.

I was originally hired at WotC four years ago to work on the D&D/Magic crossover project. At the time the plan was to make a stand-alone variant of 2nd edition. Tweet was going to write the rulebook and I was going to write the world book. The whole project came grinding to a halt within four months of my being hired. Maybe a year later it was briefly revived, but this time only as a monster book for D&D. Then that too got the kaibosh.

I doubt such a project will ever see the light of day. The different brand groups at WotC are very territorial and they have never worked well together. After I moved over to minis, we tried to do a Magic minis game. Predictably enough, the effort was a huge waste of time.

Looking back on my brief flirtation with the Addiction, I mostly remember the fantastic art. Creating a monster manual 3e style based upon the art would be a joy to read. So many 3e products have such mediocore art, and yet m:tg managed to just pile up some fantastic fantasy scenes.

And let me add, isn't this exactly why Wizards bought TSR in the first place? The potential for sucking in new players would have been great (at the height of its popularity). Why have a company with such obvious synergy and not use it. Its damn near corporate malfeasance.

Give me a Benalish Hero prestige class and Goblin Sappers to throw at my players!

I had no idea there were still people who played M:TG (speaking as someone who played from Beta and left just after The Dark came out.)

Hehe. Thats pretty much the same time I moved on from magic. I have played other CCG's since then, mainly Vampire, Middle Earth: The Wizards, and Deadlands.

I must say, when the Wizards buyout of TSR was first announced a Dominaria campaign for AD&D was the first thing I thought would appear.

LoL! The company mirrors its customer base. :)

I think Magic would make a cool setting. Being Canadian, I never even heard of the game until Legends, and I played until Mirage. I learned a valuable lesson, playing it: CCGs are evil! Reminds me of the lesson I learned with EQ and MMORPGs...

Heh, that's funny how it almost mirrors how Monte Cook described the first Temple of Elemental Evil...

Maybe we can make a supplement:

Return to the Temple of the Wizards of the Coast!
