I think someone from MS sold WW on the idea of an unstealable product. *chuckles* In the end I can only see this hurting many good publishers and writers such as Monte. Look at such things as like the Core books by WotC, never been in PDF format for the public and yet some how it is available for download on some P2P networks. Where there is a will to do evil, there will be a way to do evil. The strategy should be to find a way to conduct business without outcasting your consumers, which this latest turn of events has done quite clearly. After all, the customer is always right.

RPGNow does not tell me how I will enjoy my games, they help me enjoy it anyway I desire. I don't think Drivethru offers this service.

The biggest bone of contention for me is the 'lost files clause'.

RPGnow will resend you a lost file. DTRPG won't.

Which seems strange since the DRM is supposed to make sure only you are reading it, so there's no reason to have a second file unless you have truly lost yours.

For the purposes of this poll, it doesn't matter whether you never purchase PDFs online, whether you previously did so but won't now, or whatever. Just out of curiosity, I only want to know one thing: will you be purchasing PDFs from DriveThruRPG?

I put a tentative "yes," because I will be willing to give it a shot. However, if their web site continues to be as slow, poorly designed and generally frustrating as it is now, my answer will quickly change to "no."

Given the fact we live in a world where the only thing has more releases then D20 products are viruses and other not so nice things. Yes, lost files. Granted now I know I am above the normal with over a 1000 gigs of space but like this last weekend when I crashed my complete system. I was not worried about my PDF's because all I did was go to my friendly RPGNow Account screen and retrieved the ones I was missing from it.
*chuckles*
I must add, I will never complain about the load time of these forums again, DrivethruRPG is worse.

No.

I'm not in the habit of giving any entity, corporate or personal, explicit rights to root around on my computer, adding and deleting files when and if they choose to do so.

I have no problems with pdf's and in fact have several, mostly from Malhavoc, but I won't sign up at Adobe and Microsoft in order to be given the priviledge of using an item I've already purchased. If I buy a book, I'll choose when and where to read it, not a third party.

I voted no, not because of any strong feelings about DRM, but because I usually read my PDFs when I'm on the road for work. The laptop they supply me with won't run Acrobat Reader 6 and I'm not allowed to add new software. If I can't take my Malhavoc PDFs with me, then there's no point buying them.

I voted no. I would like to buy there, but I don´t have a credit card and so can´t use this service. (That`s also a reason why I have to pass most sources for RPG related material - I would, as an example, love to buy "The Gamers" DVD, but without a Credit Card, I couldn`t...)

I plan on buying Malhavoc's Hyperconscious.

If I have any problems not being able to copy and use for my laptop (which isn't connected to the internet); I'll print the darn thing. But at that point, I won't be buying anything else from them. They have one chance to prove to me that it's a user friendly product.
