Wizard's new spells each level

Hypersmerf is right.

There is NO offical rule that says a BB give no scribing cost.

Monte Cook wrote the DMG. Monte Cook has stated explicitly that he intended the language in the Blessed Book description to indicate that it accepts spells with no scribing cost.

Maybe you should take your gripe up with Monte.

There's no official rule that says BB still requires scribing costs. "Freely" could mean two different things, and it's not explained one way or another.

Since Monte helped write the book, one would think he would know the true intent of the use of BB. If he wrote the BB description in the DMG, and says in his forums that BB has no scribing costs, then your answer is right there. Since he's not an official employee he can't release errata explaining this, so his only outlet is his web forum. The same goes with caster level prerequisites.

That being said, I do believe that writing up to 81,000 gold worth of spells for free is over the top. However, the alternative is the exact opposite and not worth the cost. Let's hope 3.5e rectifies this.

Yeah, this works. Ignore what I'm saying, and repeat yourself. That's a fantastic way to win an argument.

Except for the fact, that by the explict rules given in the DMG, my argument is correct. You may not like the BBB, but the fact of the matter is that it works the way I have said it works. The language in its description says so. The author of the book has said that he intended the language to have the meaning that has been ascribed to it regarding scribing costs. Perhaps you should house rule it, but then it is a house rule idiosyncratic to you.

Hate to come between the two of you, but doesn't the compromise of only having to pay the cost of scribing one page per spell sort of suit both camps? By the letter of the rules, you're paying scribing costs- and the Book explicitly states that it can take a spell on a single page. Scribing costs are based on pages, not spells. At the same time this allows for a significant reduction in price- although not obviating the price altoghether, it makes a huge difference in higher level spells.

Or should I not bother coming between the two of you and let you tear the Book to shreds between your grimacing lockjawed faces?

Oh, that can work, but it won't obviate AuraSeer's complaint. After all, it would still save a wizard potentially thousands of gold pieces in scribing costs.

There is no explicit in the rules that support your case.

There is vagueness that you are standing on.

I really could care less what Monty says on his boards. He does not have the Testers to keep him in line anymore. Just look at PrCl's and Alt classes he is putting out.

If WotC wanted the BBB to be at no cost, they would have said that.

"Freely" in the description is referring to that it is waterproof and that you can still write in it. Otherwise you couldn’t as its waterproof and so no Ink would stick.

Common since here.

You don’t see popup adds on the internet saying "Freely stuff. click here!"

Stop being a munchkin and telling ppl your interpretation of a vague rules is official.

If its not explicit, then just say "IMO". That way they get a true assessment and not what you think is the rule.

No, they would have said what Monte wrote, since he wrote the description.

"Freely" in the description is referring to that it is waterproof and that you can still write in it. Otherwise you couldn’t as its waterproof and so no Ink would stick.

That is the dumbest assertion I have heard in a while concerning the BBB. Many types of ink will write quite easily on waterproof material. Oil based inks for example.

You don’t see popup adds on the internet saying "Freely stuff. click here!"

"They are giving away items freely" means exactly that: stuff being given away for free. Perhaps you need to brush up on your English language skills.

Stop being a munchkin and telling ppl your interpretation of a vague rules is official.

Stop being a [text not posted because it would offend Eric's grandmother] and take a few courses in language comprehension before you post anything. It is explicit. It says "freely". This has nothing to do with your idiotic assertion that this allows writing on waterproof pages. It means "freely", as in "for free".

Perhaps you would like to check out dictionary.com, which states that frrely is a synonym for "free", under which defintion you find:

Costing nothing; gratuitous: a free meal.

Where does the description of the book explicitly state that it takes a spell on a single page? I don't see it.

 Well, I'll be. It doesn't. I don't know where I got that idea from, but I've always thought it said that. Oh well. So much for compromise. This'll teach me not to get involved- even when I started the thread. Granted, it's been somewhat hijacked into Boccob's Blasted Battle.

I should have sold tickets.
