Wondrous item with a single 0-lvl spell

Looking at a broach with a continuous Message effect.

How would you price it?

spell level x caster level x 2,000gp*

*(in this case 3,000, for a spell that's normally 10 min/caster level)

so....it's free, right?

Tonight our DM priced it at 750gp. I woulda said 500; is there any official word I'm missing?

According to the fine print on Table 7-33 (DMG 3.5, p. 285), a 0-level spell is half the value of a 1st level spell for determining price.

So, 0.5 x 3000 = 1500 gp. You could knock the price down to 900 gp if the item was activated by command word ("Breaker breaker big buddy you gotcher ears on?").
