D&D General [Workshopping] The New Beatifics (or replacing Eladrin in the Outer Planar order)

we should only have one type of angel too much Abrahamic imagery is boring.
ng should be something rather different.

that is not my issue it is more how they are organised, structured and themed, they are like an adventuring party scaled up that would be naturally the most cg sort of thing possible (the average PC is likely cg)
I will buy that. The eladrin hit the party thing too (just run by the wizard instead of the paladin).

I have to admit I thought about switching them and the guardinals around at times in 2e and 3x. 4e made me think of eladrin as melodramatic, which is kind of chaos thing, but even more a fey thing, so maybe time to reassess that thought (Enworld has been surprisingly inspiring in that way lately). If we took the idea that I mentioned earlier eladrin really being elemental/energy being like celestials that just happened to look like elves so as to not freak out the mortals, that is pretty NG...... I have a feeling I will be moving stuff around in my mental map of the outer planes tonight.

Also, if a bunch of animal people from Arborea vacationed in Ysgard and ran into a bunch of slaad (also kind of animal people) hanging around a bar in Ysgard (where all the best ones are), that is a little less jarring than a bunch of elemental elves hanging around the slaad.

Thinking about it, my thought is that each type of Outsider should fit its plane of existence. Alignment is secondary to what the plane is about. At the risk of retconning old lore, I'd do some reassigning.

Elysium - Aasimon should be NG, change my mind.

Beastlands - lets move the Guardinals here and give them chaotic tendencies

Arborea - Its name is literally 'tree place', so perhaps some sort of monkey-themed celestial.

Ysgard - this is the Nordic place so why not types of Einherjar/Valkyries

Limbo - Slaadi, I guess even if they're not native

Pandemonium - I'd have a sound-based clade of fiends rise from the howling winds. The weakest are invisible sentient shrieks while the strongest are anthropomorphized cacophonies that can punch you into insanity.

The Abyss - Demons obviously

Carceri - Carceri has the Demodands

Hades - I think Night Hags are native to this one but I'd add Nagpas as well

Gehenna - Apparently 5E has made the Yugoloths natives of here. It's where they reincarnate if they die. Okay then, I guess Gehenna needs to serve some function if it must exist.

Hells - Devils of course

Acheron - Probably could expand the Bladelings into something of a creature category. Maybe Achaerai are one of the lower tiers. The PC species Bladelings can be Acheron tieflings.

Mechanus - Obviously the Modrons and Inveitables fill out this plane.

Arcadia - I'm thinking something like a cosmic Home Owners Association. They seem friendly at first but gods forbid you dont' have your Arcadian lawn mowed to just the right height.

Celestia - Archons go here.

Bytopia - I'm thinking a clade of dualism-themed celestials. Like one that's hot and cold, one that's day and night, one that's rock and air.

Outlands - The Rilmani have this covered.
