Agreed. They've been doing a very good job with fey lately. The ragewalker is probably the coolest creature in the MM3, and its a fey! The redone domovoi, rusalka, vodyanoi, and yuki-on-na in Frostburn are interesting as well.

In general, fey are my favorite creatures. It's no coincidence that the majority of conversions I've requested in the past have been fey. And I just looooooove all the CC conversions, don't'cha know. (Yes, I am buttering Boz up for when conversions get going again. It's never too soon to start! )

Now I'm just waiting for an official 3.5 leprechaun...

Is that how they spell it in Frostburn? Because "onna" is one word (it means "woman"), and shouldn't be broken by a hyphen.

In all fairness, they aren't actually called desmodu. But if you look at the nycter and then look at the desmodu, I'd say there is definitely not much difference.

Nah, I'd say that nycters and desmodu are pretty different. Small vs Large; vulnerable to sonic vs resistant to sonic; Roguish vs brutish...

If my memory serves me correctly, it was spelled this way even in Oriental Adventures. Besides, considering japanese uses a different writing system, doesn't that depend somewhat on the transliteration/transcription? Admittedly it would be strange to add a hyphen, but considering some differences in transliteration/cription that I've seen...

While one could point to type of transcription used, it would have to be a pretty out-there one. I've studied Japanese for over six years, and I've never seen a word arbitrarily hyphenated like that in any of the standardized transcriptions I saw. It doesn't make much sense no matter how I look at it, since if you spell "onna" in kana (be it katakana or hiragana), it has three letters, "o" "n" "na". If you want to hyphenate between letters, why not do it between all of them?

While there is certainly a case for hyphenating between different words (such as possibly using "yuki-onna" since that literally means "snow-woman"), breaking a word to insert a hyphen in the middle of it doesn't make any real sense at all.

Frostburn indeed spells the monster Yuki-on-na with two hyphens
