WotC WotC hinting heavily that Tuque Games D&D game will be revealed at the Game Awards Show

You haven't played Shadows over Mystara, or even heard of it before today, so this statement is pretty woefully ignorant.

I can tell what genre it is, it fails on that criteria alone, I need no other reason. IMHO The only acceptable genres for D&D video games are TB CRPG, RTwP CRPG, TB 4x with RPG elements. That is all.

If the game is at all like Vermintide like it looks a bit like then it should be fine.

The big problem with that was the awful camera work

No, it's another abuse of the D&D and FR brands. They should have bought Tactical Studios instead. They still should and merge the two studios, while giving TS the creative lead.

And can we talk about that aweful, aweful music, not only was it bad, but it was so unfitting to the setting it's not even funny.

After this game bombs, they should at least poach someone from Larian Studios Montreal Studio to head Tuque Studios so they can start producing proper D&D games.

You know what game Tuque's Studios should have done instead of a ARPG (gag me), is a mobile CRPG set in FR, then no one could complain it was competing directly with Larian, but it would still a CRPG and it would be more realustic for their size.

Then presumably, by the same criteria, D&D novels do not exist.

The fact that this game looks like garbage doesn't mean that a game of this type couldn't have been good.

As for Shadows of Mystara, it brought D&D to 90s arcades in the way a CRPG could never have done.

Novels have their own seperate criteria.

Putting aside the fact I'm not sure I get all your acronyms, that's a pretty reductive way to look at things. Franchise that don't try to break new grounds will stagnate.

Shadow over Mystara was a Beat'em up, but it had unique RPG elements truly inspired by D&D. Your characters levelled up, your mages could cast spells (It has VANCIAN CASTING even!) and you could collect equipment and consumable items! And it had tons of recognizable baddies. You should at least look at a play through (it was re-released on home console a few years back).

wikipedia said:
Dungeons & Dragons: Shadow over Mystara (Japanese: ダンジョンズ&ドラゴンズ シャドーオーバーミスタラ Hepburn: Danjonzu & Doragonzu Shadō ōbā Misutara) is an arcade game developed and published by Capcom in 1996 as a sequel to Dungeons & Dragons: Tower of Doom.[1] The game is set in the Dungeons & Dragons campaign setting of Mystara.

Combining the side-scrolling gameplay of a beat 'em up with some aspects found in a role-playing video game, Shadow over Mystara has many game mechanics not commonly found in arcade games, such as finding and equipping new gear and earning new spells as the player gains experience. Players can wield a large variety of weapons and armor, although this selection is limited by the character the players chooses; there is also an extensive assortment of magical and hidden items in the game, many of which are completely unknown to exist to the typical video gamer. This, along with the addition of multiple endings and forking paths, gives the game much re-playability and has led to a cult following among fans of the genre.

I make no apologies for that, "to thine own self be true, and as it follows the night the day, thu canst not be false to any man."

Incorrect usage of quote;

The first meaning is that someone can better judge himself if he has done what he should or could have done. The second meaning is that one must be honest in his ways and relations. The third meaning is that one must always do the right thing.

That doesn't mean "I'm mad when the boobs aren't big enough."

No. You are objectively wrong, and your opinion is reductive and narrow to the point that you insult everyone involved in making dnd video games, including the ones you arbitrarily like.

Edit: and the idea that the mechanics determine what story can be told or whether it can fit dnd is just....one of the most preposterous notions presented in these forums in quite a while.

I really really hope it's not an action RPG. There are a million of them already. There is no shortage of action rpgs. There are a shortage of turn based RPGs, and D&D is a turn based game. Every time they go away from turn based (Sword Coast Legends, Neverwinter, DDO, Daggerdale, etc), it didn't feel like D&D. It felt like any other action rpg with just the D&D name.

And to me, the feel of D&D is important. It's why I play the game and not something else. If I want to play Diablo, I'll play Diablo.

The long line of failed "D&D" with the D&D as just a glorified skin on the game says otherwise. Know... Your... Market. There is only a small overlap between D&D and ARPG/idle clicker/insert crappy D&D game here fans, which why stuff like Kingmaker, Neverwinter 2, Icewind Dale 2, BG 2, succeed. There is more D&D in Solasta's short demo then there will be in all of Dark Alliance. That is fact. But I sincerely hope you enjoy DA.

Exactly, there are tons these already, the ARPG genre is over saturated, it was a bad call.
