[YAELHT*] What are you going to do with the ELH?

I'm supposed to buy a book I thought was a POS just so I can take part in your conversations?

I read the book.
let me repeat:
I READ THE BOOK
and one more, for the idiots out there:
I READ THE BOOK

I don't like it, thats my opinion.

Why the hell should I buy something I don't like? Jesus, you people are thick.

Hehe... What can I say, the 'idiots' statement immediately followed by the mismatched tags made me chuckle.

EDIT: Ah, I see he already fixed it. *snap* ;)

Let me put it bluntly.

How about I put it in the simplets of terms. The topic of the thread is "What are you going to do with the ELH?" not "What are you not going to do with the ELH?"

The thread starter even stated...

Psion said:
Topic of this thread: what those people who have and will be using the ELH will be using it for. If you don't have or have no intention of using the ELH, please refrain from ranting about it in this thread. Thanks.

...and that sets the topic. You're off topic, which is a waste of space.

chatdemon said:
Until a moderator tells me otherwise, I'll post wherever I god damn please, is that clear?

I agree. You can post wherever you want until a moderator tells you to stop, but it doesn't make you look like less of a troglodyte until then, unless you can stay on topic of course.

chatdemon said:
This thread asked about how people are using EL stuff in their game

It also asked that if you don't like it or you aren't going to use it, that you don't bother responding, as per the topic.

chatdemon said:
some of us are not

Which is exactly why those of you that do not plan to use it have absolutely nothing constructive to add.

chatdemon said:
and I for one explained why

There are other threads for that, yet you felt it necessary to puke up a worthless post, and it's worthless because it's not even on topic.

a perfectly valid response to the query.

Until you're a moderator, do me a favor and don't try and moderate those who disagree with you

I can't speak for anyone else, but I'm not trying to moderate you. I'm just giving you the facts as they are. Besides, it has nothing to do with whether or not anyone disagrees with you. It has everything to do with staying on topic.

chatdemon said:
that is rude.

Maybe. But I'm not impersonating a rude wanna-be-moderator. I'm just an a$$. What is rude, however, is jumping into a thread and wasting space with posts that aren't even on-topic.

Have a nice day. :)

Well,

I'm not a big fan of the book, as some of my posts on another thread indicated, but I will use it.

The first thing I want to do is reverse engineer some of it, to ratchet some of the weapon properties, feats and so on down so that they can be used at lower (10-20) levels of play.

I want to do the same with some of the beasties.

Also, I'm going to start working up some less-epic-epic-spells, so that the DCs aren't so outrageous. I've always been a fan of "paradigm" breaking spells, as I think the alienness of them does a good job of discombobulating players. Nothing like weird rituals that wake entire armies of undead to get the blood pumping, after all.

Beyond that, I'm not sure.

I might run an over the top, ludicrous 1-shot just to shake out the system and see what happens. Could be fun.

Hi Psion,

I'm not decided exactly what I'll do with the book yet (I don't know whether it has arrived over in Albion yet). At first I wasn't too interested, but after reading some of the posts around here I'm starting to think of possibilities.

While my campaign world doesn't have any Epic heroes at present, there were certainly Epic heroes in my worlds history - and there could be some interesting time-travel or alternate timeline adventures to go back and meet them/interact with them.

I'm interested in the possibility of doing something with the Epic magic system to allow big Eeeeeevil cults to be working on long-term ultra-powerful badness; if the EHB could give great help for that kind of plot maguffin, then that might convince me (Have you done your usual thorough review yet ;))

As a general issue I think that if my campaign survives to the epic levels, I will almost certainly be taking it out into the planes, rather than dialing up the power in my campaign world itself - if I did the latter, my internal consistency monitor would probably blow a gasket! But being able to participate more fully in the inter-planar wars... I could imagine that being a good place for using the real epicness. After all, once the players have stopped the major campaign arc of the bad-guys attempting to take their plane back... why not try to deal with them at source :D

In the process of writing this, I'm quite pleased with some of the ideas which have struck me... The only problem is that at the current rate it will be two years before my players will be at a level to take advantage :(

Unless I run some one-shot adventures set in the age of legends, like the Magewar :)

Interesting thread, thanks for starting it.
Cheers

Fleshing out my world's mythology

My homebrew campaign world has two legendary features that I'll finally have a chance to flesh out...

First, about 14,000 years in the past, the world was being attacked by these extraplanar entities known as the Fallen, each of which was more powerful than the last. Well, to fight them off, the greatest spellcasters in the world got together withe the Priests of Fate (see below) and produced some colossal iron golems known as the Guardians. Now, the cool thing about the ELH is that, before this point, I really had no idea what sort of power level that would require. When I came across the Iron Colossus, though, I immediately thought of my own world. Maybe I can actually do something with these golems now, as opposed to just having them sleep until they're needed again.

The other little detail I've got are the Priests of Fate. Fate in my universe is the most powerful force there is, above all others. There are a chosen few who live in a pocket dimension and keep watch over the world to make sure that nothing that is Unfated is allowed to happen. (Unfated things generally include monsters from other planes, time travel, resurrecting the dead, etc). I'd always kind of assumed that these priests were so powerful that they were basically one man armies. Now I'm considering starting a campaign where the players play as these priests. Might be kind of a fun diversion from lower level campaigns.

Anyway, that's about it. :)

U_K, I got the pic from that link you posted ;)

Glad you liked the site mate:

My favourite bit is the Vital Info section, then under Famous Thanos Quotes:

Quotes from Thanos website
"I take what I desire, for I am THANOS."

"From knowledge springs Power, just as weakness stems from Ignorance."

"DIE, Life-Loving simpletons!"

"You'll forgive me if I...overstated...certain matters."

"Your supposed Heavenly status impresses Thanos of Titan not in the least."

Tyrant to Thanos: "You cronfronted me seeking a Challenge?? Are you MAD???"

Thanos' reply to Tyrant: "So I have been told. But not nearly often enough of Late."

"Make no mistake, I detest these seemingly alturistic actions into which I am forced, just as I detest you and your ilk. You would do well to remember that."

"Death, Thuder God, is akin to lovemaking. It gets better every time."

"...but you should have known... when you dance with Death... Death always leads."

"Even a Thunder God should know better than to needlessly sow the wind, lest you reap the whirlwind!"

"Am I not THANOS! Did I not butcher the woman who gave me birth, who force-fed me into this hell called LIFE? Is not the wake of my passing crimson with the blood of my enemies and allies alike?! Death is with me every second of the day! My every moment is spent in either dealing out Death or worshipping it! So tell me, WHO under the stars is better suited than I to be Death's consort?"

as to my favourite I'll see if I can't go and change my sig... ;)

Incidently if anyone is looking for powerful Epic adversary ideas you could do worse than try here:
