[YAELHT*] What are you going to do with the ELH?

Most likely, let it sit on the shelf at the game shop.

I'm honestly not at all impressed by this book. And it's not just the 'over the topness' of it, the main thing that bothers me is the shift away from classes and archtypes. I've always preferred class based systems, though the flexibility of core 3e and the 2e skills and powers systems are OK with me, if moderated by the DM to prevent min/maxing at the expense of character concept and archtypical characterization.

I won't be getting this book, and to be honest, I'm exploring other games and considering picking up one of the previous editions of D&D if I don't find something else that suits my fancy.

Chat demon -- please see my reply to Oracular vision above, and please exercise a little courtesy in the future, thanks.

Skip 2e and go straight back to 1e AD&D. I still think it's the most fun RPG game I've ever played.

Courtesy?
My post was in no way rude, I explained my position.

Then again, if you consider any dissenting opinion rude, there's not much I can do to help you. It's a public forum, you ask for feedback, you get feedback, deal with it.

Yes it was. Kvetching about a book is in no way on topic in a thread about ideas for using said book. You are just taking the chance to grandstand about your attitude. That's is rude, no two ways about it. There is a thread specifically about why ELH didn't light some people's fire; try posting there.

Thanks.

Let me put it bluntly.

Until a moderator tells me otherwise, I'll post wherever I god damn please, is that clear?

This thread asked about how people are using EL stuff in their game, some of us are not, and I for one explained why, a perfectly valid response to the query.

Until you're a moderator, do me a favor and don't try and moderate those who disagree with you, that is rude.

The topic of this thread is how you intend to use the Epic Level Handbook.

The topic of this thread is not: "ELH, yay or nay?" If that had been the thread, you would have been perfectly justified in the placement of your statement.

As it is, you are just being rude and condascending, and trying to foist your unwanted attitude on others. All I ask is that you take it to an appropriate thread.

Why would you bother to post to *this* thread unless your purpose is merely to spoil the potential of a thread that could turn out to be a rather thoughtful discussion. And if the ELH is as sucky as you say it is, then what do you have to be afraid of?

At any rate, I know you think I am just trying to keep you down, but really, I am just asking you for some courtesy. To wit, I will repeat my request: please take your loathing elsewhere. Start your own thread if need be.

Thanks.

P.S. Thanks Kevin.

Well said, Psion. These kind of spoiler posts are indeed becoming a bit to frequent IMHO.

As for what else I would like to use the ELH for - the Advanced Dragons seem perfectly fitted to be used on the oldest dragons of the Dragon Empire of the Dragonstar setting. Those who know the setting will know that I mainly refer to Lazalius of the Blues and Khelorn of the Gold - both of which are at least 6,500 years old. The Shadow Dragon I have in command of the adaption of the Shades I use in the same setting, I'll probably change into an Advanced Dragon as well.

I'm also thrilled about using the rules in conjunction with RttToEE - making the first 14-15 levels and battles that lie along the way in that adventure, be merely a warm-up for a longer - epic - campaign that will eventually lead the PCs to a toe-to-toe encounter with Big T. A finer way to finalise that story arc and rid the world of the threat from this vile entity, I cannot imagine :)

Hi Aaron mate! :)

Love your Avatar by the way! :)

A D&D game based on a superhero comic would be so rad. Just imagine the Infinity Gauntlet as a D&D game. Some may not like it, but I would wet my pants.

I've read the series (I have the Infinity Crusade sequel) but I am definately going to get the graphic novel in a week or so. Great story, one of the few cases where a being actually has 'infinite' power - and isn't afraid to use it! ;)

Thanos is the guv'nor after all!

Perhaps you could have Epic Characters become the Heralds of Galactus.

Or gain control of the Infinity Gems.

What do you plan to do with the ELH?

Start off with a nice candlelit dinner in the cool breeze on the beach. A little dancing. Some wine. Back massage. Whip out the Barry White CDs, cuffs...oh...wait...do you mean? .... :o

Seriously, I plan to run an epic level game with it. Shocker. I know. Crazy idea. I know. Whoda thunk it? :)

To which, I reply:

So, you're not at all impressed BY A BOOK YOU DON"T OWN.

If you don't own a 320+page sourcebook, you can have no coherent opinion, because you don't know squat about what's in it...to wit:

You said:

You cannot have read the book to make this statement. It is utterly wrong. Period.

Many Epic feats are tailored to apply to only 1 class (or prestige class) so they reinforce class uniqueness.

If you want to have an opinion that will be respected, buy the book, read it, and then bloviate...

Sheesh...
