D&D (2024) You're not planning on getting 2024 D&D? Why is that?

You're not planning on getting 2024 D&D? Why is that?

There are a number of D&D 5e content creators out there but some of even the more prominent ones don't seem like they actually play it anymore. Instead, it seems like they are covering 5e D&D for views, which is fair from a paycheck perspective, but it can feel like their heart isn't really in their 5e-oriented videos. It's like they are just going through the motions with their videos.
I do watch some of them, and the two I've been seeing do a lot of 5.5E stuff are Treantmonk and D4. Both of them seem very into the new edition and excited about it, but if I'm honest, their videos don't excite me. It's just more of the same. It will be interesting to see how they continue to adapt to the new Edition.

It would be incredibly hard to be a Youtuber where that's your career and just have to phone in content. But I suppose that D&D is still the king.

It is ironic that they didn't go for a new edition whole cloth was to avoid splitting the money....i mean fan base but its not different to catch the 'new is better crowd' nor is it close enough for those who are generally happy with 5e.

They could have made a new edition and continue to crank out half hearted 5e stuff and made bank for years.
The VTT is the missing link here. WotC had to decide to overhaul 5E into a 6E now or keep riding a popular edition into the near future and develop for it. Im guessing they decided to go with the devil they knew.

Thats one thing I notice between Paizo fans and D&D fans. There is always a bit of excitement in both creators and users for upcoming products and adventures. I dont get the same feeling from D&D which is part of why im not really into 5E. Anecdotal so take with a grain of salt.

well, they are not splitting the base when it comes to supplements and adventures, even if they cannot avoid a core split

after a new edition they cannot crank out 5e stuff any more, they would crank out new edition stuff, making the split complete

I didn't want to post a new thread, and I think people may be able to answer this here: what comes next after the core books? Back in 2014 WotC had an adventure path that came right on the heels of the edition launch. I know because I played it in Adventurer's League until I decided it wasn't for me.

So what do we officially play to kick off the new edition? I actually have an answer, as Foundry has an official module out that they are going to update to the new rules. But if I go to my FLGS, what's the shiny I'm going to get to run with my new books?

eh, you won’t find much excitement in a thread titled ‘why are you not getting the new books’…

D&D is vastly bigger than PF2, so you will get more people looking forward to it and more people who do not, but as usual the negative side is more vocal, so there are more negative posts in absolute terms, in relative terms I am not so sure

it’s not a new edition so it does not immediately need new adventures.

Even the core books come out over 6 months, to allow for the huge print runs, wait another 3 or so months for the first adventure after the core is through

I can't see thier walled guardian VTT doing anything of note in the end.

Why not? They could but they won't isn't the same as they can't.

I suspect that WotC will agree with you about it not being a new Edition for just about as long as it takes for the PHB to be available, and then we're going to see a different approach.

When you have something new and you bring in new players, you want to give them something to do right away. Does WotC have an adventure path to sell them? Looks like not. As I previously mentioned, this was something they had ready to go when 5E launched.

You're going to have a situation where parents of kids are going to buy them new books, and they will 100% want to get them more to go with it. I know this because I'm one of those inoffensive people who get asked about things like that by those parents.

If my group does want to play the new Edition, I do have something, but it's for Foundry.
