D&D (2024) You're not planning on getting 2024 D&D? Why is that?

Why not? They could but they won't isn't the same as they can't.
well, if your definition is that it is not technically impossible, ok, they also could crank out new 2e adventures…

If you go with market forces, then they will have to focus on their new edition, because that is where the money is, just like every time this happened in the past

I suspect that WotC will agree with you about it not being a new Edition for just about as long as it takes for the PHB to be available, and then we're going to see a different approach.
guess we will know soon then… to me it makes no sense for them to change the message

When you have something new and you bring in new players, you want to give them something to do right away. Does WotC have an adventure path to sell them? Looks like not.
one point in my favor, or do you expect one to become available in September? ;)

I am curious where that market force falls. Will it surpass 5e material up to this point and more importantly will it continue to pull the number of new players as well?

5e has been an anomaly so far so it's hard to say.

It's in every company's best interest to sell what's new. And WotC wants a successful launch. I say that despite all of the rakes they've stepped into this year.

And you're right: I guess they don't have a product scheduled for launch as an adventure path. When I looked into their release schedule, I see the three core books and that's it coming up. I guess that was what I was asking about, because it's easy to miss things with their publicity being what it is.

the majority will update and all new players will automatically go with the new one…

sure, and they will have that, no need to change the message
Like millions of other people, I have a 5E PHB. If it's the same game and nothing new, I don't have a reason to buy a new one. I'm not alone here. WotC wants people to turn on a dime and go from 5E to 5.5E at launch. Sure, there are going to be new players, but the millions of people using the current Edition need convincing to get the new books. And, of course, not everyone does. I'm sure lots of people with a 5E book will just pick up the new one on day one. It's the other group that will need some convincing.

I don't think people really care to hear my tale ..but I'm one of their kong time customers and I think it's worth telling.

I immediately loved 5e. I thought it was the best combination of ease of play versus crunch....when it came out.

Over time I her dissatisfied with the lack of additional crunch in the system. I felt there was room for more complexity to be added, especially in optional content.

But, culminating with the psionics end result, I realized that the system was never going to expand to fit my ideas of where it could/should.

I stopped being a consumer quite a few years ago. When rumblings of a new edition surfaced I was excited.

But from the first playtest I realized it's just rearranging the deck chairs in the same cruise ship.

I'm no longer playing 5e, or D&D fir that matter. My hobby time has switched to boardgaming as it better matches my desires for engagement with a system.

5.5? will be the first "edition" I don't purchase....since the early 80s. Notneven to just see what's new....I can do that here for free.
