My pared down house rules list

re die off table. If it rolls off table you miss...unless it is clearly a 20. But, you are stunned until the beginning of your next turn (and stunned only on that 20). It's a Hail Mary self-amazement thing.

    D&D PDA software?

not having a PDA myself, any recomendations for a gamer on a budget(...more or less)? Tentatively, I would prefer a pocketPC, but near beggars can't be picky choosers. ;) Thanks.

Bonus to Knowledge Religion check if of same faith?

I would be inclined to just give it to them; but the Pick-the-Graile scene in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade keeps coming to mind. Not all religions carefully define their most precious artifacts.

    The sith in D&D?

hmm not sure about the star wars stuff for mideival (non-Vancian Magic) DnD. At first I thought you were talking about having the Sith as bad guys; first thing that came to mind was the Tad Williams trilogy, 'Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn' http://www.tadwilliams.com/dragonbone_chair.html The Sidhe...

    Non-coin currency

Quantities of Salt were traded in the old world, esp N. Africa. The Ancient Masters in my campaignworld trade the collected soul-fragments (XP) of fallen heroes who failed in the dungeons set up by the Ancients. Muwahahahaha!

Why don't spawning undead take over the world?

My solution is to dclare from the start that general undead types are fundamentally unstable in the Prime, without deliberate support, they go away; any permanent undead with the ability to create more of it's kind must be first a deliberate creation. Those who did create these types did so...

    Item Requires ___ to Use

This ruling can have some beneifts, such as: Lowers the price to buy when used on stock magic items. Again Wizards will gripe less when asked to make magic toys for tema mates. If used often enough, encourages the Rogue characters to get Use Magic Device skill ranks.

    'wait, wait, attack' fighting style?

There is spmething similar sounding for rogues: Combat Expertise Improved Feint much Bluff skill Sneak attack and probably Quick Draw for show. Basically, activate CmbtExpt to avoid attacks, and then bluff your way to get his dex based defenses down, and WOPAH! This can be done without...

    gambling and alignment

From the dictionary, in their basic forms, Good is that which is Beneficial; Evil is that which is Harmful. Gambling, since it is on the average more harmful than good to an individual in normal Player vs. House rules, could be easily considered harmful and therefore evil. However it is a form...

    DnD 3.5e Magic Creator

Are there any utilities which help a GM make new magic items? I just poked through Twin Roses Campaign Suite demo version, and didn't see anything.

    Epic spellcaster growth

DMG 3.5e pg 207 para 1: * For spellcasters, caster level continues to increase after 20th level. Thus, a 23rd-level wizard casts as a 23rd-level character, while a 24th -levlel papdin's caster level is 12th (one-half her class level). However,a character's spells perday don't increase after...

The best laid plans of mice and DMs

The best place to keep true villains is out of reach of the PCs. A really good 3v!l wizard would never reveal himself to potential enemies if given a choice. Always send minions or use illusions etc. Failing that the villian should have the skills and spells to deceive anyone into thinking...
