Not really too much help, but the King of the Wild Prestige class from Masters of the Wild has a Terrain Familiarity bonus of +2 to things like Wilderness lore and such. You could easily adapt it for what you need to do.

I always thought the Fatespinner PrC was pretty good for a sorceror. You do give up some of your spell casting progression but you get the ability to pump up the DC's on spells.
