The GAMA trade show is going on right now. Paizo is there, and has four awesome standees showing off their upcoming Starfinder game. These standees show a human, an android, a Ksatha, and a Vesk (a newly revealed lizard alien - like a Gorn!)
Tales from the Yawning Portal was codenamed Labyrinth. Curse of Strahd was Cloak, and Storm King's Thunder was Dagger (or vice versa). Now two new codenames have emerged, spotted by EN World member kettite. Dust is dated 19 Sep 2017, hardcover, $49.95, and Midway is dated 21 Nov 2017, hardcover, $49.95. These have both appeared over on edelweiss' catalog. They do not match the four unnamed RPG Accessories on Amazon. Engage speculation mode - two new hardcovers later this year!
Paizo today revealed the cover of it's latest Bestiary, the sixth of that name! The cover art is by Wayne Reynolds. The book itself is due out next month (April) and contains 200 new monsters, new player races, foes from myth and legend (including Krampus!) and a whole bunch more. You can preorder it over at the Paizo webstore.
New on EN5ider, the 5th Edition Patreon! In the third part of your Keep Your Powder Dry Series, we take a look at industrial firepower - the weapons from the 18th and early 20th centuries. New 5E weapon properties include capacity, chain fire, and double-action are joined by the new weapons - the carbine, pepperbox pistol and rifle, pocket pistol, revolver, and rifle. Finally, we include new feats such as Greased Lightning and Mounted Musketeer. By Walt Ciechanowski; illustrated by Tamara Cvetkovic.
There were a couple of Starfinder updates from Paizo last night. First off, Paizo has announced a range of Starfinder miniatures which will be produced by Ninja Division Publishing. These will be prepainted minis for both characters and starships. Secondly, the Starfinder starship combat system was previewed by designer Jason Bulmahn at the GAMA trade show (image of that below - no other info, I'm afraid!) Those following along with the Starfinder news probably already know that the game releases August 2017, and that the core rulebook has been available for preorder since January.
Broken Ruler Games is currently running a public playtest for High Plains Samurai, a wire-fu action roleplaying game merging gunslingers, samurai, barbarians, gangsters, steampunk, and superpowers in a post-apocalyptic world torn apart by the gods. We’ve provided a free 84-page, full layout PDF for everyone to download and start playing ASAP with playtest surveys to provide feedback. Playtesters can earn playtest points to access rewards at the end of the playtest, including free PDFs or hardcover copies of the final product scheduled to release in 2018. Everything you need to start playing HPS is provided and it all goes to support the upcoming Kickstarter campaign in May 2017.
Grant Hewitt, who runs a Patreon here, has posted an awesome one-page RPG called Honey Heist. You play a criminal bear, and you have two stats: CRIMINAL and BEAR. Hewitt describes it as "A roleplaying game in which you are a bear with a plan, but unfortunately you are also a goddamn bear, so let's see how that goes." He posts a one-page RPG each month, and co-wote the most recent edition of the Paranoia RPG. Check out the free RPG (below) and then, maybe, check out his Patreon.
Coming later this year is the Starship Recognition Manual for the What's OLD is NEW roleplaying game system. Below you can see a short preview - the first two pages of the entry for the Persephone Class III Freighter. Each ship gets detailed, loving treatment, with illustrations, plans, variations, background history, even some fiction. The Starship Recognition Manual contains dozens of ships, from small freighters to colossal cruisers and battleships, along with rules for older (discounted) ships, trading, flaws, and Captain Wrigley's Starship Emporium, a sample used starship dealer based on Tartarus Station in The Cauldron sector.
It's back! The long-awaited new version of the mystic - 5th Edition's psionic class - is here. "The mystic class, a master of psionics, has arrived in its entirety for you to try in your D&D games. Thanks to your playtest feedback on the class’s previous two versions, the class now goes to level 20, has six subclasses, and can choose from many new psionic disciplines and talents. Explore the material here—there’s a lot of it—and let us know what you think in the survey we release in the next installment of Unearthed Arcana." Click the image below for the full 28-page PDF!
The folks over at Nerds On Earth spotted four as-yet untitled D&D products listed on Amazon. Often these appear with codenames (such as when we discovered Labyrinth, which was the codename for Tales from the Yawning Portal due on 4th April) and other times they have no information at all other than an ISBN number. We don't know much about upcoming releases, other than that there is some kind of major rules expansion in the works (but it could be anything from months to years off) and that Adventure Time's Pendleton Ward helped on something. Nerds On Earth spotted the following four entries.
D&D Beyond has just been announced! Coming this summer, and billed as "Your digital D&D source", it has a compendium of official content, character builder and manager, the ability to use home-brew content, D&D forums, and is usable on any device. A 1-minute announcement trailer can be seen below. D&D Beyond is produced by a company called Curse Inc, owned by Twitch. Right now, there's a signup for the Beta version. More info as/when it becomes available! [UPDATES: The D&D Beyond folks have offered some more info, which I have included below; I will be chatting with them later this week, with luck!]
New on EN5ider, the 5th Edition patreon! The world is filled with deep, dark places that few dare to venture into: prehistoric caverns, ancient tombs, and foreboding dungeons. All of these places have one thing in common: their lack of light. These are places where the sun holds no sway, and the evil creatures that dwell within them hunt and thrive in total darkness. Only a fool would venture into such a place without a light source. Sometimes, even a simple torch or iron lantern isn’t enough to pierce the darkness of such places, which is where this article comes in. “Don’t Lose the Light” provides players and Game Masters alike with five custom light source items that can be purchased, found, or collected as treasure.
Critical Role's Matt Mercer posted about behaviour within the Critical Role fanbase. It very much reflects conversations we've had here on EN World about the RPG fanbase as a whole, and the D&D fanbase specifically. Whether you're talking about Critical Role specifically, or your thoughts about any tabletop gaming rule or product, I'm sure you understand what Matt is talking about.
New on EONS, the WOIN patreon! #46. Trader Captains. Taking up a career as a trader, merchant, smuggler, or pirate? Then this document is for you! Details on trading rules, cargo types, permits, fuel costs, and more enable you to begin trading right away!
Today is International GM's Day! GM’s Day was born on EN World in December 2002. Originally a simple messageboard post by EN World member Spunkrat, the idea quickly gained popularity, championed by Mark Clover of Creative Mountain Games and, of course, EN World itself. Marth 4th is also the anniversary of the sad 2008 passing of Dungeons & Dragons co-creator Gary Gygax.GM’s Day is an annual day to show your GM (or DM, or Storyteller, or Referee) how much you appreciate them. Publishers and retail outlets across the world now join in GM’s Day, offering discounts, sales, and other cool stuff. From a single messageboard thread, GM’s Day now includes hundreds of publishers, websites, bloggers, and more! In particular, check out RPGNow/DriveThruRPG’s massive GM’s Day sale. On March 4th, be sure to show some appreciation to your GM – perhaps buy them a gift, offer to pay for the pizza that night, even a simple “thank you”.
Over on EN5ider, the 5th Edition Patreon, comes the second part of the 5E ZEITGEIST Player's Guide. "In these 11 pages you'll find information on equipment for the ZEITGEIST adventure path. From explosive alchemicals to gentlemen's goggles to new firearms, plus ships of the Royal Homeland Constabulary, details on Prestige and how to requisition equipment and call in favors, and a selection of allied stats for police constables and soldiers. By Ryan Nock; illustrated by Claudio Pozas, Brian Lindahl, ShenFei; cartography by Jonathan Roberts." The first part, Characters, went out last month - become a patron now to get both!
