D&D 3E/3.5 [D&D 3.5] Cleric help for Pathfinder setting.

HOT

First Post
My GM's gonna start a new campaign, one of the Pathfinder Chronicles and I'm playing a Cleric for the first time in years so I need some help. That is mostly because of the player setup because we're not having a traditional Fighter in our group, so I'm looking at a role as main healer and tank or at least Melee damage dealer.

So the facts:
The Other Players: Soulknife, Mage and lastly Ranger or Rogue.
My stats: 16,12,16,12,17,12 (since I'm gonna have to go Melee).
Race: Human
Alignment: CG (The city has Asmodeus as most worshipped Deity so that might be fun).
Deity: Gorum(CN), Chaos, Destruction, Glory, Strength, War
Favoured Weapon: Greatsword
Books: Core, Complete, PHBII
Spells: PHB only, for now.
Campaign goes from 1-16

So I want some tips on surviving the first levels while not gimping my fun at the later levels.

As Gorum had FW: Greatsword and War Domain he was hard to resist. ;)

Feats: Augment Healing is pretty obvious although I may have a secondary healer in the group. DMM is also, but not at 1st. Thought of taking a Fighter feat or two to be more effective at Melee combat, but that may gimp my higher levels.

I don't need to be overeffective, most important is that it's fun.

I played a cleric once that was also the main fighter. I can tell you that the war domain is imperitive, and once your high enough level, you should take rightous might a lot.

At earlier levels, you should study spells that increase your AC/ or attack and damage bonus.

During combat, you should try to set up flanks with the rogue and soulknife, because, even if your the party's main party, those classes are also decent melle combantants. And don't forget Power Attack, it's probably the most effective damaging feat a character wielding a two-handed weapon can take.

And if you're looking into a fighter who can heal, you could scrap the cleric idea, and just be a paladin.

Thanks, at first level I'm a bit concerned about survivability, since I'm going to have 15 in AC (+1Dex, Scale Armor). I've got 11HP which is enough to survive a round, but I won't deal damage when I heal myself. Of course I can use Shield/Hvy mace at 1st and change at 2nd but it seems like a bit of waste.

At low levels (1-2): save vs will spells are stronger than trying to hit. But hey, it is your character.

Possible Buffs:
Bless (since you have other attack guys)
Shield of Faith will boost you AC if that is a issue.

War and Glory aren't bad Domains, but Battle smite says 1/2 caster level (is that minimum 1 or 0) bonus to damage?

Turning helps you heal so that is covered (don't need as much spells used).

Feats:
Toughness is decent
Overhand Chop if 2 weapon handing is decent as Power Attack is now sucky (plus as a Cleric bab won't be as high).
Dodge is better (now not single target) not like yiou have many swift actions yet.
Weapon Focus if nothing better.

Since I'm not recognizing half of what you are talking about, I guess it's Pathfinder RPG? If not, there are more Errata than I know of. ;) We're playing vanilla 3.5 with the Pathfinder setting. :)

Oh, I heard Pathfinder and thought you meant using Pathfinder. :p

But okay, that clears that.

So any more tips? Think I've got the first few levels down. I don't think my GM's gonna allow cheese like nightsticks, but any equipment I should look after for my first levels? First feats are probably Augment Healing and Power Attack and possibly Cleave at 3rd. But I'm looking forward to beating the :):):):) out of things with my Greatsword.

No Nightsticks (Libris Mortis)? Darn.

Complete Scoundrel:
Magic items
1) Wheel of Fortune gives you a bonus (or if roll bad)/penaty for 24 hours. Only cost 6K.
The best bonuses are Temp hps (if roll on a d8 an 8), but the other Ability Checks are okay.

2) Rust Monster Wand is cool: release rust monster larvae on creature (assuming it has or is metal).

3) Panic Button: a 1 time use magic button. 750 go each. Action free or standard (standard if using it on someone else).

Core:
Bead of Karma: awesome magic item.

I'm having some problems to find a perfect combination like this, so...

Anyone knows if in normal 3.5 there is a deity with War Domain and Greatsword as FW? (by "normal" i mean no Pathfinder)

Hypothetically, you could opt to not worship a deity, and try to get your DM to let you select weapon focus for a weapon of your choice (I think the Sage recommended this in an old entry somewhere).
