Harry Potter Magical Items: Moody's Mad Eye

Alright, I dunno if this has been mentioned, as I didn't read all the replies. Two things, really.

1. The Polyjuice Potion actually transforms you into the target, and so should be Alter Self, not Disguise Self. Disguise Self is an illusion, and Polyjuice makes an actual transformation.

2. Moody's eye can, in fact, be averted to avoid a gaze attack. It still only looks in one direction at a time, it's just that you can swivel it 360 degrees. So you should be able to avert your eyes without a problem. Also, it can see through things, so an x-ray vision type effect would be in order. You can use the stats from the Ring of X-Ray Vision if you're worried about letting it see through everything, but if you do, you should nix the penalties for using it too much in one day.

Hope that helps.

I'd just like to point out that the Firebolt is faster than the Nimbus 2000, and that IIRC, the Nimbus 3000 does not exist (except in fanfic).

Egad, you are right...a quick check at Wikipedia.org turned up all sorts of useful info on Harry Potter broomsticks. And you are right; I was mistaken...there is no Nimbus 3000, I should have said Numbus 2001.

So it would appear that there is a huge variety of brooms to develop, if we were wanting to include JK Rowing's charity fundraising book "Quidditch Through the Ages." And frankly, I think it would be fun.

Nimbus 1000 (all Nimbus brooms boast speeds of 100 mph)
Nimbus 2000
Nimbus 2001
Firebolt (supposed to reach speeds of 150 mph in 10 seconds)
Comet
Cleansweep
Oakshaft 79
Moontrimmer
Silver Arrow (this one claims to reach 70 mph with a tailwind)
Tinderblast
Swiftstick
Shooting Star
Twigger 90

Wow. Flying at 150 mph (1,320 feet per round). Imagine the possibilities...all of those game-breaking, munchkin-esque possibilities. Anyone feel like redoing all of the rules for overland movement and aerial combat?

What about the Weasley's tent?

You've forgotten what has to be one of the most useful magic items. The Tent! Can't beat a tent that is larger on the inside and able to be furnished as desired. With a bit of dough and some elbow grease, you'd have a luxurious mansion that could be pitched anywhere. Moving would be a snap. Just fold up the tent and a house's worth of furniture, appliances, clothes, and other random assorted stuff can fit in your backpack!

Sounds like Magnificent Mansion keyed to a tent.

Brilliant idea! Just remember to leave Hermione's bag of holding outside...or should we waive that rule, since the books do?

In a discussion on the Wizards site, a representative suggested that hand-waving is just fine, except in the case of Portable Hole/Bag of Holding conflicts. He even stated that putting a Bag of Holding inside of a Bag of Holding was just fine.
Here are Cliff's Notes.

Wizards said:
-Your campaign won't be improved if rope trick effects implode when someone carries a bag of holding or portable hole inside. A Mordenkainen's magnificent mansion should likewise prove benign if someone carries a bag of holding or portable hole inside.
- One bag of holding can be placed safely inside another (of course, the first bag's weight counts against what the second bag can hold). Likewise, one portable hole can be placed safely inside another.
-It's best to treat a Heward's handy haversack as a bag of holding when it interacts with a portable hole.
