There's a good chance I'll be introduced to PF within the next month, 'cause I'm friendly with a Paizo fan where I'm headed. But I know enough about PF that C4 will remain my go-to choice as a DM.

Where ya movin' to, Tequila?

It's been an interesting thread. It seems like the system to scratch the 4E itch is... 4E. I find that interesting, since with most other games, I can think of several alternatives that try and evoke a similar attitude and playstyle. In discussion with offline friends, I think the closest fit we have is Warhammer from FFG.

I find it interesting that there really aren't any games that fall into the 4E mindset, other than 4E itself...

I expect to keep running 4E for the forseeable future. I sometimes consider running 3.5E or Pathfinder as well - but that's contingent upon me getting Hero Lab because these days I insist on electronic support.

If I feel like running an old school-style homebrew I will go with Swords & Wizardry rather than 5E (one saving throw is better than six).

I'll continue running 4e for the foreseeable future. I'm not stopping an ongoing campaign because of an edition release.

Once 5e comes out, I'll borrow someone else's books, if I can find anyone who owns it. I'll read it, and see what I think. I'm not particularly optimistic. For every good idea I hear about in 5e, I hear a dozen terrible ideas. But I'll give it a read through.

Most likely, once my DDI subscription runs out, I'll be done with Dungeons and Dragons. My character sheets and my access to content is tied to that electronic leash. I enjoyed having access to all published material for a much, much cheaper fee that purchasing it in physical form, but that comes with the inevitable cost of canceling your subscription and watching everything evaporate.

It may be time.

There's always ... shock, horror, 4e! People didn't stop playing any other version when it went out of print.

And I'm convinced that an ambitious game company could use the SRD to put out a "Continuation 4e" with improvements and a bigger market than anyone else could get.

My Loaded offline character builder will always be there, regardless of what WotC does. :)
