D&D 5E Settings for D&D Next?

1) some kind of quasi-medieval world, like Greyhawk or FR.

2) some kind of steampunk world like Eberron

3) some kind of post-Apocalyptic world like DarkSun

4) and Spelljammer to bind them

Plus some kind of detailed multiplanar structure to adventure in. While I'm a big fan of the Pre-4Ed cosmology, I could see doing something else, if it were done right. Perhaps a vertical cosmology, like found in Clive Barker's Imagica.

Something NEW! I know that's last on the list for this edition, but man I would have liked having three or four brand new settings out the gate to help everyone buy in creatively and sort of reset the field in terms of bias and expectation. The Magic team does such a great job worldbuilding, too.

I know I might catch heck for this, but really, some of those Magic worlds would be awesome (others...not so much.)

Perhaps more importantly, I think they'd be better off cranking out annual worlds like Magic does, rather than beating drums on a handful of them forever. I half-expected 4e to be the edition where the two games got linked, but I guess that was not to be.

why not all of the old ones, starting with the most popular and working down to the least popular??

after that they can start making new ones

Aside from creating a new one, this for sure. Maybe test the water a bit and roll out a single "Core" book for each setting individually and then create more splat depending on which one sells the best.

I really thought the same and was sorely disappointed when it wasn't the case. A setting a year, with the potential to revisit after a setting-specific plotline runs its course (I suppose an adventure path would be the equivalent of a Magic block) would have been stellar.

Am I the only one that feels the magic is gone from the beaten-to-a-pulp settings likely slated for the next 5 years? Even the obscure ones are turf already hashed. I know there is a marketable customer base willing to throw down for fresh settings, ones where no one in the 1e-4e crowd is an expert, rather everyone becomes a first-time explorer/DM together. Want to foster new community, provide the settings where we can share in new experiences.

I love the Forgotten Realms, Greyhawk, and Mystara, but I'd also like to see D&D return to Conan's Hyborian Age (though the 3.5 RPG by Mongoose is a hard act to follow).

A more playable, less novel-centric version of Dragonlance would be great.

Mystara was awesome when it was Gazetteers. When it became "Mystara" as a campaign setting brand, not so much.

And if campaign worlds are going to be linked, I would love it if a return to the original 2E Planescape were the glue, not Spelljammer.

I could go for that as the new setting if we get something resembling a bit of what I mentioned. I really love Dominaria.

I'd love to see Greyhawk, Eberron and Planescape (not necessarily in that order). Although I never played in Greyhawk (but did run a short campaign once, in the Duchy of Tenh), the setting always fascinated me. I love the feel of Eberron, the the story, and the pervasiveness of magic. And I've been in love with Planescape since I got the boxed set in the nineties. But, I think Planescape owes a lot of its popularity to the way the books and accessories were presented -- the graphic design, the planar cant, and all the rest. It would be a pity if WotC decided to bring PS back (as a proper setting, not just a backstage scenery for planar adventures mentioned in the core books) without all the colourful bits and pieces that made it stand out from all other settings (I'd also like to see Tony DiTerlizzi back as the main illustrator for the books, but that's not really going to happen, so...)

I think it's a cool idea. Magic seems to continue to be very popular right now and surely the resources are already available!
