As for what's in it. I suspect that almost all the core rules will be the same with no changes.

So what'll be new?
Bard, Multiclassing, Downtime Actions(Or whatever they are calling them now...actions that can be taken during downtime between adventures), Inspiration, The Role Playing rules they were talking about during their livestream where you pick one thing your character likes and one thing he hates and somehow that factors into the game.

Edit: Sorry, and the math fixes(scaling save bonuses, skill bonuses, and attack bonuses going to 6)

Yeah, I asked if he could be more specific about the when, but no luck so far. Was really hoping for this weekend, as my players TPK'ed last week and they all agreed to try out DnDNext for my next campaign.

I wouldn't count on this weekend. It'll be next week sometime, I would guess.

I predict:

- Minimal surprises; everything we see will have been in a prior playtest packet.

- Some fixed and better balanced numbers

- Carping about "they should have left this in!" or "I can't believe they left this in!" leading to "I'm not picking up 5E!" will continue at its usual rate.

I've got a feeling we're going to see a change to skills, either something new or a variation on something we've seen already.

Multiclassing...yeah, that's going to be in.

I think they'll include the bare bones of the interaction system, just to get an idea of whether it's something we like or find valuable. Unfortunately, it's going to be an extremely rough alpha, and the community will loudly complain about it, so even if the core principle is good, it will get dropped.

Some tweaks to the numbers. It'd be awesome if there was some change to hit point accumulation post 10th level, similar to 1/2/BECMI. I don't expect this, I just really want it.

I'm hoping for the new healing rules they were talking about in L&L a while back.

I'd like to see them go back to the previous packets deities rather than domains, but I doubt they will.

I believe they are using domains for core and reserving deities for settngs, so they'll get your wish in time.

I don't want specific deities. I want the "deity types", like Lightbringer and War God that we had in a previous packets.

Specific deities is something that's going to cause me to throw the rulebooks across the room.

Domains are a more generic form of deity. Which is good, IMHO, because it allows...

1.) Settings with nonstandard a relationship to divine magic (immortals, philosophies, monotheism, etc).
2.) A deity to have more than one aspect (So a Sun god who is also a healer can have priest of sun or healing domains, rather than just Lightbringers)
3.) Its easier to add a new domain to an existing deity than it is to justify a new deity to explain a new "deity type" (Hey Remathilis, who's your Fatestealer God?)
4.) Domains can define a deity that normally is hard to define (Hera and Aphrodite can both have the charm domain rather than having separate Manseducer and Husbandcuckolder archtypes)

When that magic email hits, the packet's new content will include stuff I know is there (bard, multiclassing), stuff I expect to be present (necromancer, inspiration/roleplaying) and things I'm hoping for (dragonborn, downtime system). But what would really put the packet over the top, and help me live with the reality of no warlocks till release time, is at least one truly unexpected but delightful inclusion. An element known as the Most Excellent Super Surprise, or perhaps the Bloomin' Lucky Excellent Super Surprise. In other words, things that I don't really expect to be there, but can't altogether rule out, and would rock my world if the packet actually had them. For example.

Fleshing out the number of common items in the Magic Items list.
A brand new D&D Next adventure.
The Conjurer wizard school, with matching spells.
The Legacy system, either as part of Downtime, or it's own thing.
Dragonborn
Pet/companion rules.
Metallic dragons
Weapon-using monk tradition (e.g. staff, nunchaku)
