Ever play AD&D 1e?
Yes! For a brief time my introduction was with AD&D. The funny thing is that Second Edition AD&D was already in print but my local hobby store didn't stock it. Probably because they had plenty of 1E books still. :)

But I never had a problem looking for normal things in those orange spined books. However, with fourth edition it is a real chore looking up even some "ordinary" D&D things.

I thought they did so this? Back in early 3E... Maybe my memory is tricking me however. Could have been in Dragon Magazine.

I believe I saw an announcement in Dragon around the time WOTC bought TSR that this would happen. I don't believe it ever did happen.

Interesting there's no mention of DDI or any online tools. I'm sure they have some pretty solid plans by now for what they plan (my guess is still a third party "mod" marketplace of their own which will be the way authorised license holders will distribute third party stuff). I assume all home of virtual tables and the like is completely gone now.

If the art is of adventurers standing around doing nothing, blegh. I want renditions of cities and castles and inspiring art. Poses of adventurers do nothing for me.

They should just buy Roll20 and keep it as it's own subsidiary, or enter into a well-funded joint-venture with Roll20.
