D&D 5E 5e is dead to me! Almost, TWF issue..

Given the default of SS/SS at 1d6/1d6, I would allow R/D at 1d8/1d4 but not R/SS at 1d8/1d6 without a feat.

But that would be a houserule or at least an option beyond 5B.

Seems mostly thematic for the name anyway. It's a 1d6 Piercing weapon vs. a 1d8 Piercing weapon. Not that huge in the grand scheme of things, plus it's easy to just reskin it as...what's the name for a short rapier?

I would probably use Small sword. Or maybe foil or epee.

having used those weapons I kills me to even think about anyone using a foil against someone in any armor grater then leather.. :erm:

yes, yes, yes.... I know it's a personal thing

BTW, Scimitars are about as long and lack the balance of a Rapier.

Guess I have to blow a feat to copy one of the most common weapon combinations.. like.. ever.

Well if its any consolation, the play test feat also gave you +1 AC so it was quite meaty; if it stays that way you are definitely not losing out by taking it.

Also note that there is nothing to stop you wielding a rapier and dagger, you just wont get the Bonus Attack with it*. As a Rapier has the same damage as a Longsword your not going to be missing out here balance wise.

*well, or be able to use Duelist if a fighter, but just take defensive instead.

Yeah, you can dual wield a pair of longswords. But without some special training beyond just proficiency, you won't be able to effectively attack with both in the same six seconds.

Easiest solution with the current rules would be to "reskin" a shield as a dagger. You wouldn't get a bonus attack, but +2 AC is nothing to laugh at.

at most I would make it a +1 because you have the option to throw it or use if it disarmed or sum such

That is one valid option.

Personally, since I would be treating the dagger identically to a shield mechanically, if the player wanted to throw or attack with it I would use the rules for an Improvised Weapon (Pg. 46) with the justification that a dagger made for parrying won't be balanced for attacking or throwing as a normal dagger would.
