D&D 5E Is It Impossible To Benefit From 'One With Shadows'?

If they did stop and duck their head in while pursuing you, the stealth rules would them find you automatically. It's absurd. I'd like to know the intent of the rules here.
Definately absurd.

But also, my question stands. If you were behind a wall or solid bookcase in that room, how is that different from being in a different room? If they get close, sure, but surely by then you will have had the chance to actually Hide, right?

Also, IMO, if you run into a room and then turn invisible, and they come in the room before you have a chance to use an action to hide, then they saw you turn invisible, or at least saw you go into the room, because rounds happen vaguely at the same time. They were right on your heels. If you had time to do both, then you are hidden and invisible, good on ya!

Being invisible still gives them disadvantage to hit you, and you can use your action to hide next turn.

But IMO it's also obvious that the One With Shadows should allow you to use the Hide action without losing the benefit, or that stealth should allow you to become make the stealth check to become hidden as part of the action that gives you the conditions to make the check, rather than always requiring an action to...stop breathing so loud? :eye roll:

In the scenario above, if its more than six seconds before they "duck their head in" I would say you had used a hide action.

That's what I'm thinking. If rounds aren't in use, it just works unless they really are right on your heels. If rounds are being used, and they come into the room during he same round, they saw you turn invisible. If it's the next round, you can hide on your turn. Anyone who goes before you was obvious too fast, and saw you turn invisible.

I think there needs to be a passive DC for people who haven't taken a Hide action but are hard to spot due to being invisible etc. I'd think spotting a non-moving & invisible person would be at least DC 20 active/looking, DC 25 if unaware/passive.

Hah. Good catch!

Hiding is an action, and if you Hide while invisible (thanks to One with Shadows!), you stop being invisible!

Think I would have preferred the ability to grant advantage when hiding in dim light or darkness.

I'll be honest -- given that it's a freakin' Invocation, one of the main powers of a warlock, and compared to all other invocations sounds pretty ineffectual and very conditional thanks to the hide/stealth rules, I'm in the camp of "needs errata." I know if ever playing a warlock i'd see no reason to take it, and I'm willing to bet that fewer than 10% of people playing warlocks are taking it either. If true, a vastly underutilized player option is a sign of an option that needs a tweak.

Yes, combining one with shadows with hiding doesn't work. Good thing that you don't need to hide to gain advantage on attacks and give enemies disadvantage on their attacks.

No benefit? I do think there is one. Not damage wise, because you replace two normal attacks with one attack at advantage, which is slightly worse (and you could just use the "Help" action for that). But in terms of defense, it's better. You end your turn invisible, so first of all, almost all creatures would probably go for your allies rather than you. And even if they went for you, their attacks are at disadvantage (if the attacks rely on sight).
It's a nice damage control skill and probably allows you go for less CON too.

One with Shadow has more than one benefit it does:

1. make you not seen (invisible) while in dim light (disadvantage to attacks, untargeteable by effects requiring to see you)

2. make you not seen (invisible) by darkvision in darkness (disadvantage to attacks, untargeteable by effects requiring to see you)

3. let you remain invisible after the darkness or dim light is out

4. allow effect affecting invisible creature

I would probably use a Passive Stealth score for that. Probably even for more than just invisible, like ad your natural ability to move quietly.
