There's a new Unearthed Arcana in town! "The bard receives a new Bardic College feature: the College of Eloquence. Additionally, the paladin gains a new Sacred Oath feature: the Oath of Heroism."

Karn is an artificial construct who gained a Planeswalker spark, he can travel between planes in MtG.

I hope if the do a mixed MtG Planes/Manual of the Planes Book, I hope they go into how these different cosmologies, MtG and D&D fit together, like Eberron's Planar chapter (which is likely a test bed for this sort of thing).

In fairness, I was being facetious. I don't think Karn is a character they'd put in a book title, because only people really into MtG even know who he is.

The Gate Watch have been the focus of several storylines within the last decade, OTOH.

Vi from Aquisitions Inc is also a possibility, though I think that would be a missed opportunity. I want to see a female NPC on the damn title and cover of a 5e book, but I'd prefer one whose history in the game didn't start last year.

Because Chandra's a young upstart and Jaya is old school, she's had plenty of time to actually go out and see lots of different planes.

They Chandra is quite familiar with the planes, and more importantly is a character non MtG players have heard of and seen on promotional stuff.

I'd be fine with a Gate Watch Guide to The Planes, but putting a single character in the title demands as much familiarity as possible. Also, Chandra is more fun. I'd rather read sidebars and foot notes in her voice.

Maybe both...? Grand unified Setting Theory?

I find this unlikely, solely because that is a lot of content smooshed into one book... I mean, there are 18 outer planes, but there is also the Astral Plane, the Feywild and Shadowfel, the Elemental Planes (four of them), the Elemental Chaos, the Phlogiston, the Outlands, and Sigil. Plus, some of the planes aren't even uniform, as Mount Celestia has seven layers, Baator has nine, and the Abyss has probably unlimited (not saying they could do all of them but that it's not easy to describe quickly).

Even if you had the max page count of 320 pages, you need to make room for the new mechanics (including these new subclasses). I think you can make one book that covers all of the planes meaningfully plus the new mechanics, but if you're also throwing in Magic the Gathering planes, you're just setting the book up to be a convoluted mess.

I'm going to stick with it being a Planescape book, or a Manual to the Magic Planes... one or the other, but not both.

I would suggest Leliana. After her epic come back in War of the Spark, she would be an interesting female voice for a setting guide, if a little darker than other possibilities like Nyssa and Chandra.

I'll say Teferi or Jace Beleran, just because those characters actually studied. No offense but Chandra is more likely to burn a book than write one.

Also don't really think it matters as the setting books tend to be not have a name in front of them anyway. It's the monster books (Volo's and Mordenkainen's) and the mechanics-only (Xanathar's) that fit that pattern.
