I asked them about the tone of the show, and Sue Perkins was awesome enough to reply.

Sue also tweeted here about the event:

Comic Relief itself also answered:

As did Sara Pascoe:

Man, I've gotta stop putting little flags on the number "1" when I write it down. I always mistake it for a 7, and vice-versa.

I'll check with the Doctor.

Now, that's new.
I believe this is the first time I have seen D&D being a promoted part of anything in UK media. Comic Relief is big!

It made me look on Amazon - the PHB is still way down compared to the US in all books (around 700), but this is... highly interesting: Amazon.co.uk Best Sellers: The most popular items in Hobbies & Games References

Especially the smattering of third party D&D-related books there.

Chris Lindsey, who runs the Adventurers League, actually said not that long ago in a panel I was listening to, when asked about where in the world D&D was seeing sluggish growth, actually singled out the UK as giving a relatively cool reception to 5E do far compared to other regions.

I love Sue Perkins from the Great British Baking Show, so this is pretty neat.

Well, WOTC has absolutely no direct presence at conventions and the like here, or involvement in the community. It’s all Modiphius and Cubicle 7 and folks like that. Even Paizo makes it over here.

Yeah, I don't think I've really seen any direct investment from WotC here.
Then again, where outside the US have they really been investing? I think they've been largely focused on their home market (and since it is the largest and cheapest for them to effect, probably sensibly)
