D&D General How much dice do you own?

How many individual dice do you own?

  • None. Yeah, I'm that person. Give me your dice. Dice Mooch.

I probably own about 50 dice that I have for my own use. But I have also taught D&D at summer camp, which involved buying an extra 12 cheapo sets and a few odds and ends. And, of course, once there is an excuse to have extras I started buying nicer ones for myself (nothing fancy, I'm just particular about the weight a d20 should have in one's hand and want my other dice color coded by type so that I never have to think twice about which one's which) and retiring the others to be used for camp or new players, or just to be given away.

At least with the pandemic I'm not regularly meeting in game stores for 4-8 hours and browsing dice and minis for the sake of buying something and the place near my house that sells all dice 5 for a dollar has been closed.

I am merely guessing at my total, which I put at 100-500. Could be more. Besides culling the 6-siders from all the family board games that got tossed over the years, I know I’ve purchased enough sets of mini 6-siders to but me over the 100 dice mark by themselves. And I often bought spare boxes of 6s to match standard die sets.

I’ve got them sorted into buckets AND bags: buckets are for sharing, but the bags are my personal stash. Not that I won’t share my bagged dice, ‘cause I will if asked. I just have the buckets so people don’t have to.

This is most of mine as it stands now. The blue bag in the front (now filled with d6’s) was the first dice bag I owned, and it held my plastic BX/BEMCI set dice for many years.

Funnily enough, I didn’t get the Crown Royal bag until recently - one of my gamers gave it to me as a gift because “it was a crime I didn’t have one” :)

Oh, geeze, I have one brick of 36, and another of 12 right in my line of sight - that's 48 right there.

And, I just gave into the urge for some retail therapy, and ordered six sets of polyhedrals, colors inspired by classic NASA pictures of nebulae, which is 42 on the way.

Mind you, I am just coming out of many years of not buying any dice at all, so...

Oh, I was just figuring in my D&D dice. I've got a metric ton of 6-siders from playing Warhammer 40K and some mechanic-specific ones from WH40K and Dust 1947.
