D&D 5E People didn't like the Psionic Talent Die

Well, I can't say I'm disappointed.

Personally, I hated the idea of another die mechanic. Yeah, it wasn't really hard or anything, just a nuisance that wasn't needed. I am sure they can come up with something better (or at least I hope they can...).

Of course, I despise Superiority Dice for BM and other such garbage. Needless bookkeeping IMO.

If they had gone with it, I doubt I would ever play a Psion (or whatever), just as I have never played a Battle Master. It's fine, I like the concept, just not the mechanic as at will abilities would make more sense to me.

DANGIT people! It was interesting! It was even that hard to learn! It's simpler than learning how to use spell slots!

Why have Psionic then if it's just more boring spells shenanigans?!

I swear... all the fun stuff get downvoted by people who can't just learn a simple new rule.

AUGH!

Oh I could learn it.
But, as with every other version of psionics ever, i just don't want to.

See, psionics in D&D have never interested me AND I've yet to read any version of their rules 1e-present that I like. (yes, I have read them all. At least all the TSR & WotC versions)
So my solution is simple - I don't play psions & they just don't exist in games I run.

And mostly they aren't in my games because it'd be unfair to the players for me to try & DM rules i won't read beyond a cursory browse every few years.
How would I write appropriate challenges?

we have a champion and battlemaster in my group and they both have a good time. I have noticed the battlemaster requiring any book keeping really (I guess you have to know how many times you have used it). I personally like the idea of maneuvers you can't always pull off. It breaks my immersion a bit to think a fighter can pull of his/her best maneuvers every round/attack all day long.

See, I am just the opposite. If I've learned a maneuver with a weapon or against an attack, I should be able to use it whenever the time arises. Why can't I try to trip an opponent with my Trip Attack whenever I want?

It is like with Shield Master. I can attempt to knock my target prone every round (after I take the Attack action, of course), but a BM can't use his skills each round?

Also, limited resources (IMO) don't belong in Fighters and Rogues. For example, I would change Second Wind to allow you to spend a HD to recover as a bonus action, but as long as you have HD remaining you can keep doing it. A while ago I worked up the BM maneuvers as at will, and I think it would work fine. Sure, they weren't quite as strong, but I was okay with that. Like I said, I like the concept, just not the execution.

It also encourages short rests too much and slows down the pace of the game when such characters (I"m looking at you, Warlock) who whines about not having their good stuff because they blew it too fast and are dried out now.

My personal feeling is that exact divide is one of the most useful parts of the 5e subclass designs; those of us who prefer narrative/cinematic logic can have the battle master, and those who require more simulationism can have the extremely at-will champion.

The Battlemaster not a big problem for me, HOWEVER, I agree that some of those maneuvers should have been at will... I'm fine with the extra damage being limited, maybe a type of stamina thing, but I feel like 'Goading Attack' should just have been something ALL Fighters can do at will, replacing the 4e marking mechanic.
