D&D 5E How on earth is this balanced?! Twilight cleric, more in-play evidence

So what do people recommend is a good/fair fix for the Twilight cleric?

It sounds like this is really getting you down?

The way I see it, you have a variation/combination of one of a few options.

• Ask your wife to retire the character.
• Retrospectively ban the domain and ask your wife to retcon the character to a different domain.
• Retrospectively homebrew the domain to tone it down. Reduce the boost to 1d6+Wis instead of level or limit it to 1 round of effect or whatever.
• Change the difficulty/build of your encounters to re-balance the difficulty.
• Get over it, if they’re having fun who cares.
• Quit the campaign

Or my personal favorite… speak to your wife, tell her the ability is getting on your nerves and ask her to tone it down. There are lots of options in the game and 5e isn’t difficult so it isn’t necessary to pull out the nukes every time. Ask her to show restraint and not default to the same set of spells.

I’d personally limit it to 1d6 + Wis.

Considering that rolling and refreshing the temp HP every turn is annoying and time consuming and the ability is absurdly overpowered, an easy fix would just make it work once, instead of every turn.

Not really. Campaigns wrapping up soon anyway.

She didn't really use it much earlier but has figured out how good it is.

I managed to land dominate person on the Paladin tonight. It also breaks charms.....

She did tone here character down. She's become addicted to MC sorcerer/clerics usually divine soul.

Her last character was death cleric 1/sorcerer XYZ.

I've got the double cleric tag team with a light cleric as well. He's seeing what she's doing spell wise and is copying her lead.

She kinda stumbled into it. Elistraee offered the domain, it's new and we have seen a few light clerics in action.

Tashas kindabuffed clerics and we have both come to the conclusion smart clerics use medium armor and buff wisdom.

Clerics in general are great just being a cleric.

Yes you do. That's the rule. I've heard it said here on the boards by all kinds of players for years. If it's in the game DMs have no choice but to use them, they aren't allowed to say 'No' to their players. And you can't change the rules you think don't work, because that's you doing WotC's job for them, and you shouldn't be doing that because you aren't the one getting paid to do so. So no, Twilight domain stays cause WotC published it and now everyone has to use it. That's the way the game works.

"Balance" is an illusion, especially if you expect the rules to provide it. Balance is created by the Dungeon Master, and it means giving each PC and player a chance to shine in the spotlight to do something cool.

As a DM, I can attest that certain classes and subclasses can make this balance harder to achieve, by essentially having soo many tools (or so effective tools) that you need to design around them.
