D&D 5E D&D Beyond No Longer Supporting Unearthed Arcana

Announced on their livestream Dev Update, D&D Beyond will be refocusing development on new features and content, citing an inability to keep up with Unearned Arcana in a timely fashion.

We at D&D Beyond regret to inform you that we will no longer be supporting Unearthed Arcana content on our platform.

While we have loved giving users the opportunity to use new Unearthed Arcana playtest material offered by Wizards of the Coast on D&D Beyond, there are a multitude of factors that have made it difficult for us to do so in a way that presents the content the way it was intended, and in a timely way that does not divert our development resources.

we should all recognize that a service we once were getting is now being cut, while we pay the same price.
Yes, we no longer get free sprinkles on our free sundae
For me that is a rather vital component
I've changed how I do homebrew because of interactions with DND beyond. The good news is that doing so also made my homebrew more consistent with 5e principles

But I think DDB still has all of the tools necessary for adding your own house rules and custom content. (Correct me if I'm wrong.)

It depends how custom. If you want to house-rule a sub-class with a different spell list, you can do that. If you want to house rule a psionic system with power points, D&DB won't support that.

I would prefer to see more work done on that customization system - not necessarily in making it more flexible, but in making the user experience of it more clear.

Indeed. Many people casually underestimate just how difficult it is to get to a completely whole-assed state.
Yeah, nothing is ever truly whole-assed. But a commitment to push things to nine-tenths-assed, or at least three-quarters-assed, will do wonders for a system's longevity.

You keep strengthening the foundations of your castle, and that makes it possible to raise the towers higher and higher without sinking into the swamp. :)

...or working on a VTT that's seen apparently zero progress but they've constantly claimed to have a bunch of devs on, and so on.
I missed this. I thought everything I read said they had no plans to be a VTT.

Granted, I haven't been to their forums in ages....
