That the Goblin thing? Haven't seen the movies. Were the gobbis running the banks.
Yeah. They were greedy and scheming, like any old banker. They were short and ugly with big ears and noses, like any old goblin. In short, they were banker goblins. As a Jewish man I never looked at them and thought, "My God, they're stereotypical Jews!" Rather, I looked at them and thought, "Those guys are stereotypical goblin bankers." Some folks will look at anything that is remotely similar to a real life example and conflate correlation with causation.

You can take virtually any example of a bad guy or act and find a real world example that has been perpetrated on a minority by a people who are in power. That doesn't make the example a representation of that minority, conscious or subconscious.

It was in both the books and movies. The movies were not always faithful to the books, but when it comes to the antisemitism, it was.

I would like to say JK Rowling got $0 from me. I did see one of the films though can't remember if it was at the movies or someone else paid for a DVD hire. So it's somewhere between $0 and a movie ticket.

HP is one of those things I just don't get. Kinda like anime I suppose and a few other things in pop culture.

Ouch that's terrible. Never read the books or the movies.

Was the movie adaptation faithful to the books or did the movies do that?
The only greed the goblins showed was for goblin made items. The goblins were like the Norse dwarves in that regard, being able to make artifact quality items. They viewed such items as belonging to the goblins, even when "sold." They viewed those sales as lasting for the lifetime of the purchaser and were highly offended when said items were passed down to other humans rather than returned. There was nothing Jewish about their greed or scheming, which was only for the one goblin item in the books/movie, the Sword of Gryffindor, which if it wasn't Excalibur, was a sword very much like it. As for the gold of others, they defended it with much integrity and risk to their own lives. There was no antisemitism that I saw.

Not familiar but if you showed me one of those goblin pictures and told me they were bankers it's not a hard to make that connection. Superficial maybe completely clueless on the movie depiction.

I only saw the movie picture a few days ago and a headline. Didn't understand the context and not overly familiar with the comedian either.

Yes, they ran the banks. And were greedy, scheming, big-nosed, short, yellow-skinned people. They're an obvious caricature of Jewish people.
Not only that, as I recall JS’s discussion, he showed a Potter fan some of the illustrations from an antisemitic text and the person thought they were preliminary sketches for the goblins.

Nothing fishy here. Move along.

Ferengi had mire nuance to them and it's been stated they're a satire of capitalism.

Ferengi were characterized as possessing demonic, exaggerated features and embodying wanton greed.
They were portrayed as cowardly.
They were depicted as a misogynistic race, evoking Nazi portrayals of Jews in the early 20th c.
285 Rules of Acquisition; 613 commandments in the Torah
Women excluded from commerce; women traditionally excluded from Torah study
Head coverings
Ferengi prohibit autopsies. So does Judaism.
Ferengi mostly played by Jewish actors.

Watto wasn't in finance. Some resemblance to caricatures by itself isn't bad.
Watto was a greedy slave-trader with a large, hooked nose and accent that was a cross between Middle-Eastern and Lower East Side. If you can't see this one, then I don't know what to say.
