The video below from Nerd Immersion delves into the races in more detail.

I found it.

"The size trait will become more flexible–harengon, for instance, can choose to be medium or small, others will have the following new text: “Player characters, regardless of race, typically fall into the same ranges of height and weight that humans have in our world. If you’d like to determine your character’s height or weight randomly, consult the Random Height and Weight table in the Player’s Handbook, and choose the row in the table that best represents the build you imagine for your character.”"

So 6 foot halflings and gnomes. :(

I mean, we have 8-foot tall humans in real life, what would, proportionally, be wrong with the periodic 6-foot halfling?

Note the "others will have the following new text" and the "typically" in that quote there. It never said "all player characters fall into this general range". They still have always small races. Fairies are a new race, and they're listed as Small in their racial stats, not "Small or Medium" like some other newer races. The same applies to Goblins and Kobolds in this new book, too.

So, no, this is a lie. Gnomes and Halflings will not be 6 feet tall in the revised PHB.

It read to me like if you want to determine your height randomly that you all use the same tables bases on build. Any idea what "build is"?

Edit: I assumed Faerie was included among the others from the phrasing.

Looking through the changes to the various races it appears to me that they could all have been made using the custom lineage rules from Tasha's. If the only difference between any of the races is how they appear why even have races? Just using the custom lineage as the way to build a character and drop all of the races.
I don’t get why this is being done.

playing against type is not a thing? Hi I am Torg the 6 foot tall halfling with a 20 strength at level 1? Just why?

Near as I can tell, the optional Size only applies to some of the Anthropomorphic animal options, except the Aarocockra who are always Medium. The Owlin from Dtrixhaven can be Dmsll or Medium as well. It's not a general rule, it's Race by Race trait that can provideexceptionsto the rule..

Oh well. I don’t know how big anthropomorphic animals are. That does not sound like a big deal.

Note, this never stopped anyone wailing on about Alignment.
So . . . whataboutism? Just because other people were doing it doesn't mean that it's okay for you (general you) to do it too.

I'm aware of what the Monster Manual says about Alignment. Unlike most people (at least, what seems like most people), I did read the introduction to the Monster Manual and have always used its advice on switching around the alignment of certain monsters if I want to as a DM. You're preaching to the choir about this.

Furthermore, there's more to the Alignment changes than people simply not reading a paragraph from the Monster Manual. I firmly hold that playable races and certain creatures with agency should not have a listed alignment in any product that should be setting neutral (the Monster Manual, Player's Handbook, the Mordenkainen's and Volo's books, etc), because there are outlier settings that don't have those same base assumptions (Goblinoids, Orcs, Yuan-Ti, and Gnolls are not innately or even mostly evil in Eberron and Exandria, etc). And, note, I don't just hold this opinion for Alignment, I hold it for other setting-dependent aspects of the core rulebooks (Druids not wearing metal armor, for example).
