The War game is going to be Killer I hope!

They've been doing a LOT of non-violent/Euro influenced games for the past few years. Last game focused more on more direct conflict (though more strategy than tactical, and on a world scale rather than battlefield) was Conquest of Nerath.

This is going to be awesome!

They put out Dungeon of the Mad Mage just a couple years ago.

Well, it's not a Magic release, so it's not the worst possible timeline.

Any info on if this is a setting book or an AP?
It's an Adventure Path with optional Mass Combat rules integration from the Warlords of Krynn Battle Game, which can be played stand alone or ported over to your 5E games if you want to, instead of using the abstracted rules in the Dragonlance book.

The question is:

will the battle game just be its own thing, with its own mechanics not capable of being integrated (at least not cleanly) into the RPG—like the existing (terrible) "Adventure System" games from WizKids and (apparently) also the Onslaught game...

...or have they finally figured out that a straightforward but interesting mass-combat game that's easy to integrate into a campaign of the RPG (like a better version of the old TSR Battlesystem) would be mind-bogglingly awesome?
Interchangeable.
