Variant human feat. Skill expert gives 1 skill and gives expertise in one skill and gives +1 to a stat.

Maybe make him 13? Still super young, but easier to imagine living through the rigours of adventuring.

I’m currently raising a 13 year old and am not super interested in playing one. Although, I’ve been on the receiving end of enough vicious mockeries, I’d have good reference for the spell. Playing an older character loses some of the rp stuff I was going for so I might as well just play a 16 year old or something.

I think he took skill expert as human feat. 10-year old should have penalty to stats. There are rules for children somewhere

There's really no need to penalize someone by age. Since you won't play the character 8 years older in game, just assume their stats go up when they become an adult.

Yes, my variant human feat.

Also, it’s why I didn’t want to use my first set of stats (the ones that were super high). It’d be weird playing a 10 year old with 14 str. OTOH, a halfling can start with 18 but, nonetheless, it didn’t really fit my concept.

Oh right, I was confused because you wrote "my racial feat is deception" when you mean your racial skill. After that it looked to me like you had two feats. I get it now.

Yes I believe Fern is a variant human with the bonus skill - Deception and his bonus feat being Skilled Expert(TCoE)
I'm not sure what a Background Feat even is,
I think something like 12-13 would be good, meaning he's been living with Delenir around 5 years

For the record: in Ender’s game, Ender is 6 at the beginning of the book and 11 at the end.

But he was in protected environment except at the very end.
Some GoT characters are between 7 and 13 at the start, what we consider children were
adults in other cultures or in earlier times...but no one expected them to be as strong, fast etc as 'full adults'

I think of Harengons as being quite young -- I wasn't thinking he was a grizzled vet, more in his 20s, say. But feel free t have him know anyone you want.
