Thst is consistent with the new canons. Disarmament was established in earlier Disney canon.
Bad idea. You still have imperial boss types and pirates. Just stupid policy.

Awfully easy to break into a junk yard.

So, they have scientists that know how to use what was stolen, but not what to steal? Ummm.....

All we know is that they're no longer using Imperial or Rebel tech. We don't know what their actual current armament level is, and they certainly don't need to maintain it at the Imperial level in order to handle pirates and scattered warlords.

It was a set-up. There's no telling how easy or difficult it would be if they weren't specifically intending to catch the guy red-handed.

Again, set-up. The point wasn't to get the tech, the point was to get the scientist alone in a room with a mind flayer and someone willing to abuse it.

Why? Why not just kill him? Or whatever? Aren't they wiping him? Am I missing something?

They said disarmament, didn't they?

Depends on which "they" you're talking about. The Republic want to reform him. Moff Gideon's group clearly don't want to kill him - their agent could have arranged that at any time. Most likely, they only want to kill his conscience so that he can go back to working for them.

Did they? I know it's been mentioned in this thread, but all I recall being talked about in the episode was the decommissioning of Imperial and Alliance equipment.

Presumably it will be revealed in the future. If I were to hazard a guess then I would say that Elia Kane was using Pershing to build credibility with the new government, in order to pull off something bigger in the future. Having Pershing be able to tell them what really happened would expose her play, so she turned his brain to Jell-O. The machine "malfunctioning" makes for plausible deniability.

I thought it wiped their memory..... But you could be right. I figured she was going to trick him into starting the work.....

Plausible.....

If Pershing turns up dead its obvious someone wanted him dead. If his brain is turned to jelly its a tragic accident.

If his brain is damaged just enough eg turning his conscience off he's an asset.

And since he os hyper specialized if he turns up dead its a pretty good indicator what someone doesn't want people to know about.

Disney is leaning hard into the cloning thing as it's the one thing that explains their sequels and ties things to the PT and makes the story more coherent as a whole.

Sounds like it. The objective appears to be to turn him. Specifically to Gideon's side, and against the New Republic.

Gideon has clearly infiltrated the New Republic rehabilitation program.

An imperial has may not be Gideon. It probably is though since he was referenced and his officer.
