Mario money woukd still mean the movie lost money.

Nope it was somewhere around 75-125 million behind depending on its advertising budget (150 max if they had a lavish budget).
Ok, I was confused, as you're insisting that even if Honor Among Thieves made "Mario money" from streaming it couldn't make up its defecit.

Since Mario isn't available on streaming, you're talking about Mario money as in 1.3 billion dollars

Mario VoD was reported as 75 million about a month ago.

HAT will make very little money on streaming comparatively. The studio and streamer are one and the same and in any event Paramount is losing money on streaming as well so you're shuffling money around doesn't change its overall trajectory.

The holes big enough they woukd need to either make Mario money and then some on VoD or have Netflix or whoever pay them a very large sum of money.

Existing Paramount customers arent extra income so it's basically first click metrics only and i doubt its that much at least tens of millions.

On any event Paramounts not one of the big steamers either comparatively.

Is any of this discussion changed by the fact that we're now seeing actual 2023 flops entering the chat?
Not sure, it's not like that makes HAT a success all of a sudden., so I am not sure it makes any difference wrt implications from it for HAT / D&D movies.

It does show that it is not an easy year for cinema though and HAT is not the outlier in an otherwise successful year for movie studios.

This might also mean that a sequel in some form is still somewhere in the realm of possibility.

It's interesting to see this still being discussed. I have seen a lot of comments about the movie on social media and they are all saying "flop" at this point. It definitely didn't make what the positive expectations were thinking. That's really sad because I genuinely enjoyed it and saw it twice (something I never do anymore).

I think it was a victim of what was going on at the time as far as WotC and lack of marketing to the general audience. I also think that it had "MCU" written all over it and there is a general fatigue for that type of movie.

It's really unfortunate because I wanted it to succeed.

At the end of this week Paramount+ and Showtime have their streaming merger, which will mean tens of millions will have Honor Among Thieves available for the first time (this may include outside of the US).

The flop will likely do what it did the last time it was available to tens of millions on streaming -- lead the week.
