I see a slow timeline advance as we’ve gone from 1485 to 1496. Individual adventures can be set any time they please, though. They might set one in the past in 1357, if they like. But if you ask someone what’s the current date in the Realms, they’ll say about 1496 DR. The setting hasn’t been reset.

It will be interesting to see the current state of the other settings in Eve of Ruin - Greyhawk, Dragonlance, etc. - on the multiversal stage.
The most recent of those, which was published in 2020 aka 4 years ago, is one of the earliest, as Iceaind Dale is set in 1489. Though I guess Shayyered Obelisk night be earlier if it keeps the date, cone to think of it. There is no progression here, and that is good.

Now you've got it! Finally fix the BS that was 4E's lore change. Long time coming.
So... every book since 4E. Erase 16 years of lore, all of the 5E storyline events... No more BG3?

Nah. I'm good. :)

People can use the old lore all they want. Those books already exist. People who didn't adopt the timeline jump have already written their own stories over 16 years. A rewind won't substantially serve anyone.

Candlekeep Mysteries placed it in 1492 DR which was a 2021 release. But overall it doesn't look like the setting has advanced beyond 1496 DR in any 5E publications. It will be interesting to see where they place Eve of Ruin, if at all. They may have stopped that convention. We'll have to wait and see. But I'm more interested in the state of the other settings in relation to the Realms.

As someone who got into the Forgotten Realms in 5E...the pre-Time of Trouvles version of the Setting is simply a better set-up for playing a TTRPG. Basically of that "living" part of the Setting is some bad novel from 1993 ruining or "solving" a great plot hook or adventure location.
If you don't feel there's any progression in 5E Realms, it might be OK for you.

My game is still in 1371 DR. I was OK with the Spellplague but never accepted the 100-year timeline advance. A reset to 1357 DR would have been better.

Pretty sure WotC can still say "The events of BG3 still happen 100+ years from the current date."

For those interested

I noticed those 7 same symbols appear on the front of the Platinum Box as the symbols on the other circle of the back of the alt cover book.

I'm really curious if each of those seven symbols just represent each piece of the Rod, or if it represents the 7 main settings of 5e or both or whatever Guards each piece.
