D&D General Are you aware that the New Edition (5.5 whatever) is a part of the 50th Anniversary of D&D?

I'm looking forward to them adapting some old school modules for those old school D&D characters.

1. X2: Retirement Home Amber
2. C1: The Hidden 401(k) of Tamoachan
3. L2: The Millennial's Knot
4. B2: Time Share on the Borderlands
5. S3: Senior's Package Vacation to White Plume Mountain
6. S1: Colonoscopy of Horrors
7. T-1: The Temple of Elemental Evil (It's perfect as it is. No adaptation necessary.)
Funny titles aside, I would throw so much money at them if they re-released the older modules for 5E. Like, buckets of money. Just ask Goodman Games; they've gotten hundreds of my dollars already.

According to the EN World search bar, you wrote that in January of 2012.

I didn't mean to single you guys out--I searched for the terms "6E" and "five years" (or "5 years"), and it returned several pages of results. I just grabbed a few from the first page.
So it turned out my guesstimation made two years before 5E got released was a little off.

Okay... how bout we re-write it then...

Whether the Revised 5E "reunites" the player base or not... it doesn't matter. 6E will be released in 5 years time regardless.

;)

I have no nostalgia for 80s TV in general and for a poorly written and animated (even by 80s standards) children's cartoon least of all. I despised that cartoon; it was an embarrassment.

But that's okay; I'm sure the alt-cover will be dope.

Over in the new cover for the DMG thread a lot of people are dismayed the the revealed covers for the new Core 3 seem to lean into nostalgia.

Having new art of the famous iconic of 1st ed. Strongheart, Venger, etc. The interior art going all in as well. Not to mention those darn meddling kids from the cartoon! And whats that elfs name? Milf? Something like that.

And some people are just aghast at Gen X for using these old 1st ed characters in the.... Anniversary Edition. Like did you not notice this has been hyped as the 50th Anniversary Edition? Like WotC has played up the 50 Anniversary everywhere. There are even 50th Anniversary themed minis coming.

Don't be worried by the time they roll 5.75 or 6 or whatever I'm sure it will go back to mostly anime themed Hogwarts bespectacled heroes in big bright colors. You don't see Warduke needing glasses! (Im just joking, nothing wrong with fantasy heroes in eyewear.)

This is the 50 Anniversary. Normally I would defecate all up and down WotC for their choices but I can't fault them for trying to celebrate the 50th Anniversary.

Not to mention, them using nostalgia back when they released 5th ed is what got a lot of the older gamers to try D&D5. The game might not exist if they didn't throw us a bone back then and it doesn't hurt them now, especially tied to a 5 decades celebration.

As for Gen X. Well, let me finish off with our motto born from neglect and apathy: "Whatever."

And also the 51st anniversary! Only two of the core books are going to be here for the 50th.

The thing that gets me about these covers and the artwork of the D&D cartoon is that Venger, Warduke, Presto, Eric, Sheila, and the rest were not really this iconic cornerstone of the game for me. They were a Saturday morning cartoon that was really disconnected from anything with the game outside of some branding.
