D&D General Are you aware that the New Edition (5.5 whatever) is a part of the 50th Anniversary of D&D?

I just think Venger looks like a dork, and Warduke looks like He-Man's evil twin or something. I don't care if Gen Xers find them appealing. I'm an elder millennial, and I am entitled to have a cover that appeals to me. :p

I'd love a cover by Clyde Caldwell or Larry Elmore. That would be a real celebration of D&D's history in my book.

I don't mind Tyler Jacobson's art style in general. I think it's mainly the colors of these new pieces that I don't like - they're too pastel / washed out for my tastes. I want bolder colors. I also want more action. I didn't really like the overly orange coloring of the 2014 PHB, but at least it has some action on it.

I do not want adventurers having tea parties with dragons on my D&D book covers. Thank you just the same.

It all depends on the sales. The new stuff keeps selling, they'll keep making it. The new stuff doesn't sell, they'll stop making it and put out a new edition. They don't care about the design, only the sales.
And that edition will occur after being on ice for a few years with more... nostalgia products to keep the brand in the periphery

I have a weird feeling it won’t sell as well as they hope. Then again, 5e and my failed predictions about technology.

But what I wonder is now that this many folks still play 5e, how many will really buy the 2024 versions? Do casual players care about the “improvements?”
I think it will be a slow adoption. Of course it will sell well, but if it is still backward compatible it will be a year or two before we can see its real install and usage base. 4e taught us that first 4-12 months can be illusory.

You do know that Easley drew the original art for Strongheart and he did Ringlerun on the 1E PHB cover, right?

Taylor Swift bursts into a treasure vault full of avocado toast?
Haha! I do like Taylor's music, but that's mostly because I have three daughters. Never been keen on avocado, though.

I did not. 1e was before my time. I started with 2e in the 90s. Not that I particularly care for Easley's 2e PHB cover either.

A lot of the art from that time looks dated now in terms of hair and clothing styles and such, but it's still that detailed, scenic art that Caldwell and Elmore are known for that I like best when it comes to D&D art.

That being said, I think the D&D book covers I like best are actually the 3.5e era ones.

Would a Blink 182 cover appeal to you? Some of them sound quite good.
I dunno. I've never listened to their music or looked at any of their album covers. I prefer Weezer, but I don't think I would like a Weezer style cover for my D&D books!

:-O You take that back! Warduke is cooler than He-man and Venger will eat your little piggies!
